How to look up Young & Innocent (1937)?

This movie, though sold under this title, is listed under "The Girl was Young."  Unless someone has told you that they are the same movie, you aren't going to find it.  There must be some way to show both titles of re-named movies.

So you're saying that in this search result
https://www.imdb.com/find?ref_=nv_sr_fn&q=Young+%26+Innocent+%281937&s=all

It would be better if the last item, The Girl Was Young (1937), would have an extra line that said "Young and Innocent (original title)" as it does on the title page:

I heartily agree with you.

I thought I'd seen relevant aka info on search results before. Maybe it was when a title had only a single aka. This one lists many translations.

I think the reason is that Young & Innocent is technically listed as the primary title, not an aka. Due to your location or settings, a US aka title is displayed to you instead. It would certainly be better if the title matched by the search was displayed as well.

I like  Peter's idea much better than what I wrote. Displaying the title that matched is indeed what's needed. Although the other 3 titles had both "young" and "innocent" in their titles, it's hard to know why the 4th title appeared, except perhaps that it had both "young" and "1937". When you click through to "More title matches", no more titles are displayed, so I suppose I would have clicked on the true match.

I finally remembered the other Hitchcock title that goes by a different name on IMDb:
https://www.imdb.com/find?ref_=nv_sr_fn&q=juno+and+the+paycock&s=all
Why does this one display both titles and Y&I does not? (The film has just as many alternate titles as does Young & Innocent.)

My previous explanation does not explain that example, so I'm not sure.

It doesn't help that even on Hitchcock's page this title doesn't show up.

Hi Slava,

Please know that the display of the "aka" title in your search results will depend on your Title display country settings for your account.

Please visit your general site preferences and update your current setting for "Title display country" to "United States" rather than "Original".

Let us know if we can offer any further help.

I would NOT consider this issue solved (as the thread is marked now.)

First, I think your response is backward. The original title is what Slava searched for, and is NOT what appeared in the search results. So telling us to switch the Title display country" to "United States" rather than "Original", makes no sense when we want to see the original.

But there's another issue: Why does IMDb list an aka title with the display title sometimes and not others?

We have 2 titles illustrated above:

  1. Search for Young and Innocent, and with US title display selected, see only The Girl Was Young, with no help as to why that title is really the best match.
  2. Search for Juno and the Paycock, same setting, see The Shame of Mary Boyle, aka Juno and the Paycock.

Why does the second film display both titles (it's a good thing!), but the first film does not (bad thing)?

Please read the replies to the original post, since they are NOT answers, but illuminations of the problem reported.

Claire, your suggestion works only for people who have an account and sign in.  I sign in only if I want to comment on something.  Showing only one of several titles is not particularly helpful.

Hi Slava & bderoes,

We've been unable to reproduce the search results you're seeing for both titles.

Can you both confirm the region you're searching from, as well as your current settings for Title display country and Title display language?

Thanks in advance.

This appears to have been taken care of.  Young & Innocent now shows Young & Innocent.

I can confirm this is working properly now. I tried several titles that I know have alternate names, and with either the Original or United States options selected for title display, I get useful search results.
