How to merge titles

I'm 99% sure that The Fight to be Male (1981) doesn't exist, and is actually an episode of Horizon (1964 TV series) titled The Fight to be Male which was broadcast in 1979.

I've just read the instructions on how to merge titles which would seem simple enough if I was merging a film into a film, or a TV series into a TV series, but as this is a merge of a documentary film into a TV episode, I'm not sure how to do it.

This is the link to the non-existent 1981 film https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0218233/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

And this is the link to the 1979 TV episode which showed a film of the same name https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2352467/?ref_=fn_al_tt_2

Here's some proof:

This is already listed in the Episodes of Horizon
Those other Two Need Deletion!

Ed: What would be the problem with merging the 1981 film into the 1979 episode? That would get rid of the 1981 film's entry, which seems to be what you want to happen.

An IMDB Employee may do this deletion from this notice hopefully, so that a request may not need to be made through the Contact Us Method. https://help.imdb.com/contact

Daniel: Here is how to fix this. Go to the page for the 1981 film at https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0218233/, and click "Edit page". On the next screen, on the Title Correction line, select "Add correction" and click "Continue".

On the next screen, in the box where you enter the corrected title, enter it as:
"Horizon" (1964/I) {The Fight to Be Male (#15.20)}

That's the exact IMDb-formatted title of the 1979 episode; make sure to use that exact punctuation. In the Explanation box, provide an explanation that the film is actually just a TV episode, and provide all your proof including links. Click "Check these updates".

On the next screen, you will get two warnings, one saying, "There is a mismatch between the title type of the old and new titles. Are you certain that you wanted to change the type of the title as well as its spelling? ..." The other warning will say, "The new title already exists in IMDb. Are you sure you wish to merge this title page into this other page for the identically named "Horizon" (1964/I) {The Fight to Be Male (#15.20)}?"

Both of those are what you want, so check the box marked "Warning understood, go ahead anyway" for both warnings and click "Re-check these updates". The rest of the process should be self-explanatory.

Good luck!

By the way, in case other people come across this thread and need to know how to merge a TV episode into a theatrical movie, it's a similar process. The difference is that you would start from the TV episode and submit a correction to the Episode Title/Number. On the next screen, you would put the formatted IMDb title of the theatrical film into the Series box, and leave the Episode Title and Number boxes blank.

Correction done.

I'm wondering why Ed is here with 1000's of replies in just a few months, and struggles to follow Gromits instructions.

Whereas I as someone who's only done around 20 edits in total in my years here managed to follow Gromits instructions perfectly fine.

Perhaps it's best if that is left unexplained.

Daniel:
I'm guessing in IMDB title programming talk...
The 1 = is what you put instead of a dash to indicate the show is still going on.
Actually, there is no indicator in an IMDb-formatted title to indicate whether a TV series is still going on or not. (IMDb does collect that information, but they don't use it in the formatted titles.)

In the formatted title "Horizon" (1964/I) {The Fight to Be Male (#15.20)}, if you are referring to what appears right after 1964/ then that is the letter I (not the digit 1), that is, the roman numeral for 1. The reason it is there is because there were two different TV series that debuted in 1964 with the same title. "Horizon" (1964/I) is the British series by that title, and "Horizon" (1964/II) is the Irish series by that title.

The same use of roman numerals applies when there is more than one movie with the same title in the same year. For example, there were eight movies titled The Escape released in 2017, so IMDb has identified them as The Escape (2017/I), The Escape (2017/II), and so on up to The Escape (2017/VIII).

Could not get it to go green unless the dates matched even though the episode is from 79 and the series is from 64.
Not sure you can name merge because of the Year being incorrect.

Nothing else needs to be done. I did it approximately 12 minutes ago.

"The Fight to Be Male (1981)" will be merged into "The Fight To be Male (1979)" episode of Horizon when it's accepted by the admins.
