This has to be the ultimate example of the manipulation of the IMDb starmeter that appears to be becoming more and more rampant.

This actor has two credits, (one not even released), and the other of no note whatsoever. Yet sitting pretty at 807

I'm sure if you sign up to one of those "who get great ratings on IMDB" sites they'd tell you how - the simplest thing is to sneak yourself onto a film you aren't in (a high profile one could get you some added buzz) and when the credit is changed, you still have your page which you can then boost. Of course, the question arises as to why you'd want an IMDB if you didn't have any credits but people do odd things.
One other possible solution would be that they have work in development, but if you search for them any such credit would appear next to their name, and there is nothing.

Ahhhhhh, even if you have no actual credits? That seems a bit weird.
I find that hard to believe.
One thing IMDb admins REFUSE to understand is that these sort of manipulation WILL lead to these same people adding FAKE CREDITS, such as "uncredited" roles on Big-Budget movies.. if you don't stop them now, they will only continue to finds ways to boost their starmeter and what better way then to add yourself to a MAJOR title..2 manipulators are currently ranked 14th and 16th on the STARMETER..thats quite a slap on the faces of IMDb admins...

I've just been notified that I've shown up on some list about faking starmeters (your list vhavnal).
I have no idea why I'm on that list, or why I'm now getting spam about how I have to ask to be removed from it. I've been a longtime member of IMDb and have been in this industry for years. I have no reason to fake my starmeter AS A PRODUCER MYSELF. I can't explain why my meter has gone down or up. I have a movie coming out from Lionsgate this summer (Among Friends), recently released
The Things We Carry digitally, and I assumed it was news hitting about those; It's also pilot season, so I figured people were looking me up, which happens when I'm in contention for a part.
***See my graph Aug 5 2012 - Aug 12 2012. That was a 40,000 jump! My only thought then was that I was in the mix for a big part in a studio project.***
Or maybe it's some fluff article about my hair or red carpet fashion that makes people wanna look me up.
I DON'T KNOW.
Being on that list is embarrassing and works against my efforts for YEARS to establish myself as a reputable professional, WHICH I AM.
Listen, someone else posted on my message board in a mean and petty fashion, but I let that go, because who cares, people will say whatever they want on message boards. Haters gonna hate, lovers gonna love. But this is too much. I think what you've flagged in that list is worthy of exposure. I just don't belong on it.
Check my credits and bio. At least it'll help my starmeter :P

hey Alyssa, i have subscribed to this getsatisfaction thread, you are on that list cause as you can see and have mentioned, you work was well mediocre :P ...but somehow, you shot into the Top1000 (886) on Feb 24 this year..infact you have been in the Top3000 since Jan 13th..one thing i realized about most manipulators was that they all had a major MOVE upwards at the start of this year, which would probably mean they paid a "subscription" to a starmeter boosting site...since i created that list, over 90 people currently on that list had their starmeter drastically "reduced" by the IMDb admins, including yourself. I haven't removed their names from the list because in some cases i have seen these people subscribing to another "boosting" service and their starmeter shooting up again after a week or two...If your ranking stays in the 30, 000 range over the next couple of weeks, i might remove you from the list...cause if i remove someone from the list and in a week or 2, they shoot back up into the Top3000, then it would mean i was lied too...a few have complained that they didn't know their agents were paying to boost their starmeter (yeah right)....
its not the number of work you do, its what work you. There are some who only worked in one MAJOR title (with speaking lines) and their starmeter has been high ever since, then there are those that do over 100 titles and never make the Top 10000..starmeter shooting up randomly from time to time due to the person making the news is justified, but climbing to the top and staying there without actually making news or having titles that are what we would deem "big-budget" is manipulation :)
Alyssa, with all due respect, your starmeter should not be in the top 50-100 thousand. Even 30-40 thousand would look suspicious.
The "PR" firm you have been using was been artificially bumping your page. This is beyond dispute.
To have you try and justify your previously high ranking on the basis of your work is rather sad.
There have been a couple of manipulators who have confessed to the activity or conceded their PR firms were doing this on their behalf without their consent or knowledge. At least they earn respect for being honest. Perhaps this is the path you should walk.
Anyways, good to see you are keeping in good spirits and civil. In that you are one of the few lol

I'm not trying to justify anything based on my work. What work I've done, I'm proud of, because I've made two features, one now with major distribution, on my own (with a lot of support, but you know what I mean. Not studio films).
I've said I don't know why my meter dropped. I can't/won't confess to anything because I'm here watching all this from the sidelines, too. What I take issue with is being lumped in with people who are manipulating, who know they are, and are being called out for it. I take a lot of pride in my efforts and work. I have integrity. Being on that list puts me in a group of people who don't walk the same path I do. If someone else is doing this "on my behalf" then I am still in the same position: I can't/won't confess because that would be news to me.
I really do appreciate the civility of this conversation thus far. Being in this business means opening myself up to a lot of commentary. Not all of it is nice or accurate. I will keep doing what I do and even when my super low meter *is* justified in the eyes of others, I will still just be me!

I hope one day to see you in the top 100, with Pap shots on the front pages, features on E Tonight and an interview with Parkinson. I will be cheering loudest, i assure you. And I am casting no aspersions on your work or its quality. I'm sure its very good and I will make an effort to seek your films out and watch them.

As it stands at the moment, your starmeter before the big drop was unwarranted. Again, I'd contact your PR firm and ask them what they do to push you front and centre. You may be surprised, (and disappointed), in their answer.

@Alyssa it doesn't so much matter who hit the buttons to give false numbers as much as it matters that the info there is false. There are children on the list too. They probably didn't do anything on their own. But, if it's not you, surely you'd know who to ask. Surely you'd know better than any of us.

I think that's the point of the lists on message boards or on the Lists feature.
