They are ordered automatically based on the number of credits.  It's not meant to advertise what you plan to do most often, or based on preference, but what you'd be know for most.  In most cases that means what category you've appeared in most often.  The only way to change the order is to be credited more for the other category.

Duncan: Besides what Bluesman wrote, which I agree with, keep in mind that IMDb counts each episode of a television series separately toward your number of credits in each category.

However this does not always appear the case. I have a colleague who has 15 production manager credits and 24 misc credits (including many TV EPISODES) yet his production manger credits ( for which he should have none! imdb error!) appear first after his name. In fact a couple of years ago my PM CREDITS did also and them imdb changed it.

What's his name (or better yet, link to his page)? And, what's the error? Errors can/should be corrected.

That said, your page seems to be displaying filmography accurately. You can't change it even if you know of a page that has errors.

Fair enough! Thanks for your help. Errors are a confusion that Imdb has had for a long time. In the film industry both in uk and USA. A unit manager is a location department post! However imbd always shows them as Production manager credits.

Ah...I see what you mean. Yeah, there are a few issues like that. Thanks for the explanation and you're very welcome!
