Let's assume you are looking for a film with Bambi in the plot summary.
You will first need to "Enable adult titles/names in your searches." Enter Bambi in the search box and enter return. Toward the bottom right, click on "Enable adult titles/names in your searches."
Click "plot summary" on the right side of the page. This will produce:
Most Popular Titles With Plot Matching "bambi"

I'm afraid that only remembering plot can be tricky - I know as I'm often trying to track down a film based on what I can remember about the story and often don't get anywhere until I stumble across it some other way.
There are ways to improve your chances. As well as the ideas Dan sets out you could:
* Google an outline of the film's plot - you never know it might work
* Can you remember key elements? Was there a priest or a zombie or a woman who gets punched in the belly? If so then try looking up the relevant keywords:
http://www.imdb.com/keyword/priest
http://www.imdb.com/keyword/zombie
http://www.imdb.com/keyword/punch-wom...
* You can use advanced search to narrow things down too - so if the film is fairly recent you can narrow the age range, if it was in English you throw that in too

So you might work up a search like:

If the queries suggested above don't work, you might ask at the I Need to Know message board :
http://www.imdb.com/board/bd0000001/t...
The regulars there are often very good at tracking down films from plot points.

David,
Welcome to IMDb's Get Satisfaction site.
Sometimes we forget to suggest the obvious solution such as the I Need to Know message board. The regulars on that board helped me identify a few films I've seen in my youth, that I only vaguely remembered.
