BS! I need to change the primary image on my film's page. The following is posted in the instructions: "4) On the right hand side you'll see the option to set the image as a Primary Image." The option described in #4 DOES NOT EXIST. You know what else doesn't exist? Any semblance of Customer Service from IMDB.

I get this message when I go to the photo I want to change:

"This is already the primary image. To suggest a new primary, please select a different image to replace it."

BUT I AM GIVEN NO OPTION TO SUGGEST A NEW ONE!

Hi, John:
BUT I AM GIVEN NO OPTION TO SUGGEST A NEW ONE!
Please see this help article: How do I update my poster?, particularly...

You can not select a new primary poster for (I'm guessing) Chance because currently none of the current images of the gallery are of the "poster" type. You must upload a new "poster" image following the instructions of the aforementioned help page.

Hope it helps...

BTW... The following anchor link in the Images Guideline is broken and should be fixed:

I did all of this. I posted the image as a "poster" and there was no rejection of it as such, though it doesn't show up under "posters" when sorted. So I cannot click on anything to change it.  Worse still, the image that is currently being used as my primary image was never selected as such, nor was it tagged as a poster.

The primary image system follows the rule "some is better than none" and,  as such, whenever a first image is uploaded to the gallery it will be used as the primary image, regardless the type (still frame, etc.), until a poster is uploaded. In other words, once a primary image is set, only posters can replace it.

I posted the image as a "poster" and there was no rejection of it as such
Four scenarios here:
  1. The image you posted doesn't appear in the gallery because it's been uploaded very recently and hasn't been processed yet.
  2. The image you posted doesn't appear in the gallery because it's been rejected.
  3. The image you posted appears in the gallery (this one?), but you forgot to suggest it as the primary image.
  4. The image you posted appears in the gallery, and was correctly suggested as the primary image, but it's still been processing.

  • If (1) or (2), please post the 18-digit Contribution ID of the image submission (it can be found in your email inbox).
  • If (3), go to the URL of the image and suggest it as the primary poster:
  • If (4), just wait...

P.S. (to ): I'm not very fond of letting actual still frames be tagged as posters... (ok to be displayed as primary image in the absence of posters though).

In short, you have to visit the URL of the image slide that you want to have become the primary image.

Why can't an image be uploaded? Why must it be a URL from another site?

It can be uploaded. There has been no mention of a URL from another site. What seems to be the confusion?

Please see ljdoncel's help above (thanks).

Sorry if this was confusing but direct help is always available for IMDbPro members.

To contact our IMDbPro customer service team, please click "Contact Us" in the footer of any IMDbPro page:

which takes you to https://help.imdb.com/contact ... after selecting "IMDbPro member problems" in section 1, choose most appropriate options on the menus in section 2, and then press the "Email" button to open a contact form.

Alternatively, click "Help" in the menu at the top of any IMDbPro page to reach https://help.imdb.com/imdbpro -- if none of the online help is appropriate, use the link at the bottom of the page:

to access the same direct contact system.

Hope this helps for future contacts and sorry again for the confusion.

Direct help is NOT always available. I have followed the instructions you copied above and the only help I have gotten is YOU. I have emailed IMDbPro with no response.

And did you know that signing up for the ironically named "GetSatisfaction" app doesn't do anything but get you spammed with questions from other frustrated users? And still no answers.

I am convinced that none of you actually use the site because all of your advice is apparently from an old version. You guys keep directing me to click prompts that do not exist.

The worst part is, you have no competition. Which is why I can't go anywhere else for this service. Which is why you charge me for it but don't care at all about helping me.

John Crye, what is the URL of the IMDb title page for your film? You don't see an "Add image" button/hyperlink?

The instructions are all accurate and up-to-date (and I do use the site,  I am the Founder and CEO of IMDb; the other people replying here are helpful customers who are also experts)

Per Jeorj's request, please share the name of the title you are trying to update and let us know which image you wish to make into the primary and we will try and explain where things are going wrong.

Separately I will ask the customer service team why you have not received a reply to your email. Sorry about this.

As to the Get Satisfaction email notifications, to unsubscribe please go to your Get Satisfaction profile page:

http://getsatisfaction.com/me

and then do the following:

Click "Email & Notifications".
Turn off the first 4 notification options.
Click "Save Emails & Notifications".
Turn off the other notification options.
Click "Save Company Notifications".

They do actually: TMDb. It's free to use, but given the sheer amount of titles released from the past/present/future, their database is often lacking depth:

https://www.themoviedb.org (shortener: https://www.tmdb.org)
about: https://www.themoviedb.org/about

But I understand your frustration, as IMDb's interface is confusing and very convoluted, with no user history that said user can easily check back on later, and submissions which typically do not make it clear whether they've been accepted or not (without the user checking the exact place the info they added would be to see if it's appeared properly) or clear reason for non-acceptance apart from stock responses like "Does not meet our requirements" or similar.

Well of course most of the data is going to be the same, given they do the same things, but in quite different commercial backgrounds.

Competition is good across products. And databases follow. Just ask yourself why we have both Discogs AND Musicbrainz (plus loads of other music database sites/services like Gracenote), for example.

They co-exist, each offering different cross-references, functionalities, and usabilities.
And each helps to make the other strive to improve themselves to get users' eyeballs.

We see ljdoncel has done some detective work and the title here is likely to be https://pro.imdb.com/title/tt7915464/ and the image you wish to make the primary is presumably https://pro.imdb.com/title/tt7915464/#rmConst=rm3350159872

We will take care of this for you, but here is the process for future reference ...

1. Start at https://pro.imdb.com/title/tt7915464/ and click the "Images" tab to arrive at https://pro.imdb.com/title/tt7915464/images

2. Click on the image you wish to make the primary:

3.  Click on the image and this will pop-up:

(we have added a red highlight around the "Edit tags" link in the lower right)

4. One the resulting window which pops-up, click "Suggest as primary image ..."

and then press the "Submit" button.

In this case, we have made this the primary image for you and the site should update to reflect this in the next hour.
