I want to register with IMDb. A message says “Email already associated with an account.” It’s my ONLY address. What do I do?

I want to register on to IMDb but after filling-in the form and clicking the Register button, a message in red against says “Email already associated with an account.” I think about a year or so ago I started the register process but I gave up, for whatever reason. The fact remains, however, that the email address I gave then is the email I have now – and have had for 15 years – and so there is nothing I can do in terms of changing my email address. What do I do now?

Use this form to recover and/or reset your password associated with your email account. https://secure.imdb.com/register-imdb...

Thank you, but I have tried this three times and the same message of “Email already associated with an account” keeps appearing. So, whereas I can continue to change my password until the cows come home, I can’t change my email address – and THAT seems to be the problem. So I am back to my original frustration – i.e. what can I do to resolve this glitch?

That doesn't make sense. If you're recovering the old account, it should not be telling you the email is associated with another account as that "other" account is the one you're recovering.

I got totally lost awhile back, Bluesman....whereas he says he started the registration process awhile back, it seems it was completed. However, given what I've read below, I'm now beginning to doubt my own logic and sanity. If it was April 1st, I'd understand. As it is, I'm just going to go to bed with a toddy and a bromo. Let me know how it all plays out.

LOL..I like your idea better, though! There's not enough peace and quiet in this house for that yet. Enjoy!

You say “If you're recovering the old account,” but the whole point of all this is that, as far I know, I do not yet have an account with IMDb. Why should I? After all, I’m trying to register an account as a NEW user/member. I can only repeat: I do not have, nor have I ever had, an IMDb account. I simply want to enter my email address and my password and become registered. I shouldn't have to have the IQ of Einstein to achieve this simple task. It’s something we all day several times a year with this or that organization - but something, somewhere, is blocking my pathway. Help!

IMDb is saying to you over and over "That email has an account attached." Each email can only have one account attached. But you insist on saying "I don't care that you have an account on that email; create a new account." This is not going to happen.

You say you have reset the IMDb password that goes with that email. Therefore you have the two items needed to log in to that account. Since you have changed the password, noone else can login. Don't try to Register; Log in!

Once you have logged in you can change the User ID if it isn't appropriate, or if you want to reset everything, delete the account, wait a day and create a new one. But note that if you do this you will not be able to use the User ID that is currently on that account; once deleted they cannot be reused.

I had overlooked what should have been the obvious: stop tying to register and just log in. And it worked!
