Hello. If the information is wrong, it can be corrected. If it's right, it cannot be removed. The database is meant to reflect accurate data and you can't pick and choose what you want displayed.

How come some actors are able to only able to have their birth date and not their year? Or some don't have their birth date listed at all?

If it's not there, it hasn't been submitted. It's not by the actor's choice.

What purpose does imdb think publishing people's birthdates serve?

Why are you replying to me here when there's already a discussion going on?

People are interested in information about actors/actresses/directors, etc.  When people ask me how old someone is, I almost always go to IMDb because everyone you can think of is listed here.

Well the actor may have chosen not to add their birth year when they filled in their details (as they'll usually do for people who aren't so famous fans would do it). Once the information is in the database, and it is right, it can be difficult to remove, so people need to think carefully about what they add (same goes for eager beavers adding their early work, that the later want to remove).
