West Orange, New Jersey is NOT a suburb of New York City.  New Jersey is a State, near New York state.  In the info about Ian Ziering, it says he was raised in West Orange, New Jersey, a suburb of New York City.  That is Impossible.  West Orange, New Jersey is a city all to itself as are most New Jersey cities. It has nothing to do with New York City.

Whatever road existed prior to I280

Like this history of I280 explains.

Route 25A in 1939, a spur of Route 25 (U.S. Route 1/9) that was to run from Jersey City west to Newark. This portion of road would become Route 58 in 1953 (the Route 58 designation was removed in the 1990s). When the Interstate Highway System was being planned, the Route 3 freeway was planned to become an Interstate.

Still is commuting distance of 11 miles. Instead of 15 minutes, maybe 45 minutes.
Still considered commuting distance.

The New York metropolitan area is the largest metropolitan area in the world by urban landmass, at 4,495 sq mi (11,640 km2).[16] The metropolitan area includes New York City (the most populous city in the United States), Long Island, and the Mid and Lower Hudson Valley in the state of New York; the five largest cities in New Jersey: Newark, Jersey City, Paterson, Elizabeth, and Edison, and their vicinities; and six of the seven largest cities in Connecticut: Bridgeport, New Haven, Stamford, Waterbury, Norwalk, and Danbury, and their vicinities.

Nothing in NJ is a 'suburb of NYC'...that's just ridiculous.

I'm sorry but the definition of a suburb has been presented to you.

One more time for you to read.

or as a separate residential community within commuting distance of a city.

Bethesda Md. is a suburb of Washington D.C.
They are separated by a boundary.
Or do you not see that.
Or do you not believe a dictionary.
Or do you not believe an encyclopedia.

A State line does not mean it's out of bounds
