Identical credits split between different sections, need to determine correct section

Tonight I was going through the credits for The Lady Vanishes (1938).  Alex Vetchinsky (as Vetchinsky) is credited on-screen for the position of "settings," which is listed on IMDb in the Set Decorators section.  I wanted to understand if this was truly the correct section for this credit, whether the credit "settings" truly corresponded to the position of "set decorator."

Secondary sources variously refer to Vetchinsky as either the "set decorator," "set designer," or "art director" of The Lady Vanishes.  I also wondered if the credit actually belonged in the Art Department section as it could be considered a more "generic" Art Department credit.

I went to Vetchinsky's IMDb profile to see if he had identical "settings" credits on other films, and if so, to see what section in which they were listed.  I see that he does have additional "settings" credits listed, however they are not listed consistently.

Some credits are listed in the Set Decorators section, some are listed in the Art Department section.

1) Which section does IMDb consider the correct section for "settings" credits, Set Decorator or Art Department?  Is "settings" officially considered a credit from that time period/production location (UK) that is equivalent to "set decorator"?

2) Whichever section is considered correct, Vetchinsky needs to have the credits currently assigned in the incorrect section (whichever that is) moved to the correct section (whichever that is) so that all his credits of "settings" are consistently listed in the same location.

Hi, Vincent-P. The guide concerning this suggests that the question of which section to place the credit has a lot to do with whether or not it is a main unit occupation with respect to a given production. So, if you find a crew list that has a populated Art Department section but an empty Set Decorators section, then one of the credits in the former section should be moved to the latter. I'd imagine that "consistency" is not required, even if a problem of confusion on the matter arises.

Hi Jeorj -

While there is a grey area between many of our roles that sometimes makes it difficult to find the right list, we wouldn't "elevate" specific roles just fill an empty spot elsewhere (ie. moving Art dept credits to the Set Decorators section).  I hope this helps clarify!

Hi Vincent-P -

"Settings" credits should be listed under the "Art Department" section (as most of them are at the moment), these credits should not be listed under the "Set Decorator" section.  Cheers!
