The author of the Johnny Depp's strangest character? poll reported that the character The Mad Hatter has been replaced by 'Dragon' from the movie - 'Le chaînon manquant (1980)'. He reported it on the IMDb Poll message board in the Random Fault in my live poll! thread. This problem has occurred within the last week.

The poll went live on May 15, 2014. The author last changed the list upon which this poll is based around two months ago. The same problem reported for the poll also happened to the list.

The character affected is the fourth choice in the list and poll. I also can confirm that the fourth choice in the poll was Mad Hatter prior to this problem occurring.

When I reviewed the character page for Mad Hatter I saw no evidence of vandalism. However, I found it curious that there was no biography associated with this character.

I recommended that the author not make any changes to your list, since that may make it more difficult to discover the root cause of the problem.

I do not recall this problem happening to any other IMDb poll or list.

I don't think it's specifically a poll problem. For some reason the character page ch0012251 changed from Mad Hatter to Dragon, and Mad Hatter instead became ch0440256. Occurred in June, going by archive.org. I can't explain why.

Thus, the same replacement would have happened in any poll or list that included the old Mad Hatter character page, e.g. http://www.imdb.com/list/ls056921218/

Can the poll author fix the poll by replacing the character in his list and having the poll "re-pushed"? I don't remember this possibility being described by staff, but I think others may have done it in cases with bad pictures in image polls?

Yes, this is not really a poll problem.  I'll pass it on for someone to figure out what happened, but in the meantime: yes, if the list gets updated then we can resync the poll from it and the Mad Hatter should replace Dragon.

Murray, thanks again. The author updated the list as suggested. It looks like the re-push of the poll worked.
