There should be preference based recommendations on IMDB homepage instead of location based. I am from India but i don't want Bollywood recommendations.

I am an Indian user and used IMDb to know about US TV shows and Movies. But lately you have changed default homepage for Indian users. Now it is full of information about Indian movies which I am NOT INTERESTED in. Please return my right to access US IMDb Homepage without using a proxy.

Amazon employs world's best software engineers. I mean, how difficult is it to add option to allow US Home webpage for Indian users ? Is IMDb team so dumb ? If I have to know about Indian movies, there are tonnes of useless Indian websites for that. That's not why I visit IMDb website. Make America Great Again and please make IMDb great again.

IMDb Staff, IMDb India Editors and IMDb Users,
After reading everyone's feedback (most of them are negative) I have a question - Don't you people like some changes in your life?
After the company launch on October 17, 1990 IMDb was providing/featuring only Hollywood contents. Now they have decided to feature some more contents related to other countries so that their users can get a lot more informations that they used to get before.
Unfortunately most of the users are providing negative feedbacks and saying that the IMDb India project is a disaster, but they are not appreciating the hard works that the IMDb Staff have provided behind this project a single time.
I thing we the IMDb users should be thankful to the IMDb Staff for bringing these changes and helping us providing a lot more informations than before.
Thank you IMDb Universe.

Don't you people like some changes in your life? The problem with a rhetoric like that is that it uses the word "change" in the context of a temporary disruption to whatever is regularly consumed... and in most cases that change is welcome. But you cannot port that same reaction to something that is not temporary, and ask the same question with the same expectation.
So if I am happy with eating chappati everyday and I visit a friend's place for lunch, and was served rice (which I dont really prefer), I will be happy to accommodate the change. That accomodation and acceptance comes because of the knowledge that Im going back to chappathi soon. However is someone puts a gun to my head and tells me to now switch to rice for the rest of my life, appreciating them for providing that "change" is going to be the last thing on my mind.
As barry mentioned... After the bollywood shit started and the removal of the message boards... not to mention the distasteful shoving of Amazon prime products in your face, I dont really feel any "appreciation" for all the hard work they have put in to stoop to new lows. Nope... nothing there last time i checked.

You have said enough now let me explain what you people are missing.
First of all, I have seen around 1,000 movies in my life so far and most of them are foreign language (Non-Indian). So I understand Hollywood movies pretty well.
Here is my IMDb Profile, if you think I am joking around here >> http://www.imdb.com/user/ur45394926/
===================
Secondly, I wouldn't talk like that to an unknown person if I was you. We don't know each other, never met before. I maybe bad in English, maybe missed proper education in school but that's not your business and I didn't disrespect other users which you already did.
===================
Now, let me explain what everyone is missing.
If you visit IMDb Home Page using a proxy address of U.S. (in mobile it comes by default), you'll see the following page on March 30, 2017:

But if we visit the website in India, we'll see:
You see? We are getting all the Hollywood contents but in bonus we are also getting the India coverage, like:
1. English-Language Movie Releases of the Month
2. Movie Review: 'Phillauri'
3. Most Anticipated Indian Movies (The Real-Time Chart)
I hope you people will understand the benefits.

You are missing the point here. We are happy if IMDB wants to showcase Indian content. The problem is that they are not providing us with an option to opt-out of such content. Agreed that some people are interested in Bollywood movies but that doesn't mean that you start forcing this content to rest of the users. This is what the whole outrage is all about.

You are missing the whole point. As many above have pointed out, this Bollywood shit was forced on us whether we wanted it or not. All most of us "IMDb-non-appreciators" are asking is an opt-out, because we don't share your "maibaap-IMDb" sentiment.
If a company of the caliber of IMDb fails to understand that we Indians don't all think alike, are not all Bollywood nuts, and don't all have the same taste in movies and series, then the last thing on my mind would to be thank them and appreciate their hard work. Hard work, my foot!
There is a racist idiom that goes "They all look alike". It means the person is ignorant enough to think all people of a certain race are the same. All Italians are mobsters, all Arabs are terrorists, all Blacks are thieves, and all Indians wear a lioncloth and break into song every 2 mins. By making a change without an opt-out, that is what IMDb has implied here. They have ignored the vast diversity in Indian culture and arts, and have forced their generic change down our gullet.
Forget about Hollywood, have they even given Indians an option to choose to get info specific to their region? Can a Gujarati person from Maharashtra choose to see only news of Hindi, Marathi and Gujarati cinema and not of south-Indian cinema? And vice versa? Can a Tamil person choose to see only Tamil cinema news? No, right!? We're all put in the same bracket regardless of our personal preferences. To them, "we all look alike". That is the problem.

IMDb India is a big project from the IMDb Staff's point of view and they'll not going to close it, at least not now.
At this moment if you have any idea to take the project on a better level, please share with us.
I found most of the people are posting offensive languages here, I really don't think they should do that. You can share your statement politely with us. Every posts on Getsatisfaction are monitored by IMDb official staff.
Most of us are still feel sad for the shut down of IMDb Message Boards. Unfortunately, people like Sanchit Aggarwal are the reason behind that. They can't show politeness to other people.

An opt-out is the easiest solution in the world to implement. All it does is, when a user logs in, it reads a user-set flag and loads either the Indian version or the International version of the site, both of which are already present.
Allowing region specific content is more difficult because they will have to put an effort into it; something they are not want to do, given their generic "you all look like" implementation in the first place.

hi, i am an american but living in a foreign country. i am not interested in the local cinema, i don't even know the local language.
IMDB by default goes to the local country site main page, i cannot configure the site to use the USA site (unless i use a proxy). i mean by default it shows me the local cinema in the main page and the local cinema news and articles which i am not interested in.
Can you allow me to choose which country site to view by default or have a worldwide option. I want to view the imdb main page just like those in the US would view.
I don't mean the name of the movie title and language preference i know how to configure that.

I'm from India. Some time back (6months), Indian movies, release dates etc started showing up. Sections like Trending Indian Movies, Top Rated Indian Movies are showing up in main page.
Main reason I use Imdb , is for Hollywood and other Language movies.
I dont wanna see suggestions abt indian movies in Imdb, is there any way to disable that ?

What makes IMDb assume that just because I live in India I am also a big fan of Indian films? Many young people living in big cities in India, in fact, aren't. Yet, widgets displaying movie listings in India and "Top Indian Movies" have become a permanent and irritating feature of IMDb.com since last 5-6 months. I looked in the "Account Settings" section but couldn't find any way to turn off this nuisance. Indian movies and TV shows are full of ridiculous nonsense and I don't want to see it. IMDb editors need to stop imposing India content on anyone accessing the site from India and provide India-based users with an option to turn the local content off should they so desire. Enclosing a few screen snips for reference. Mind you, these are all visible to me on www.imdb.com and not www.imdb.com/india. Thanks.

Dear IMDb and users,
Recently IMDb showing Indian movie contents and trends by default because I located in India. Unfortunately, I do not follow and watch much of Indians movies and serials. So I would like to see IMDb by default for US or UK. Can anyone here can guide me to set it like that?
Thank you.

There is this tracker thingy that shows all the local shows whenever I open IMDB. I don't want that shit. The shows here are badder than a dump of your turds. Why the frog do you want that in there?

I come to IMDB for information on international films, not Indian Films. Suddenly my home page is all about Indian movies.I am not able to change the settings in my account, in-spite of choosing films from USA. Please guide.

I have been an IMDB user out of India for more than 15 years, and hyperbole aside, the web version of the IMDB website is awful. English speaking Indians DO NOT visit the IMDB for the latest knowledge on Indian cinematics, rather they are drawn to the site for the vast database of mostly foreign productions. That does not mean that it is wrong of IMDB to research and document Indian productions, it should. However, it's clear from the general body of comments that the forced inclusion of Indian cinema on the homepage is quite disturbing and, frankly renders the front page useless to most of us. We don't come here for vernacular language films, that's not the modus operandi of IMDB, which ought to remain focused on Western productions.
Furthermore, IMDB's response to this page has been pitiful. There is not a line of text from anyone representing IMDB that suggests that the vast sentiment on this thread has been acknowledged. Poor poor disinterested customer support.
Best Regards,
Varun

You are missing the point so many people are making. Its a question of choice, option, and not dumping something on people who never asked for it! For a company as big as IMDb (and Amazon), developing a few tick boxes to make this feature optional would have garnered them more respect than being the Western overlords who decided en masse what an entire country of 1.7 bilion people should consume. And its not like they did a good job of it. We don't even have the option to choose which region's cinema we are interested in. Where is Gujarati cinema? Marathi Cinema? North-Eastern cinema? Bengali cinema? Bollywood and Tollywood are not the only ones. The inherent lack of understanding the culture of the region is painfully obvious in their decision making process.

Again, where is the option for me to choose which regional movies I want showing up in my homepage? If I am a lover of Bengali movies, does not matter if I am Bengali myself, where do I choose I want to see the latest news about Bengali movies? Or any other regional movie? Nowhere! Its a shoddily implemented half-baked change that does not consider the complexity of the country at a whole.
All this, but the major issue is, they have not even considered whether Indian visitors to IMDb even wanted this change. Most don't. Talk about freedom of choice! The largest movie website in the world has failed to implemented freedom of choice in the largest democracy in the world...go figure...
