Dear IMDb: May I offer an idea for a feature improvement? My suggestion is to make a slight change to the automated system that selects the information presented in the "Known For" section on a person's Name page. If, on a given film, a person served as director as well as some other position, the system should automatically select "Director" as what that person is known for in that film (rather than, say, cinematographer or editor). The reason is that the position of director may be considered more senior and/or carrying more weight in terms of overall responsibility for the film than those other crew positions. Examples of Name pages that illustrate the problem are C. J. Revan (nm3967178) who posted previously about this issue, and Shuntian Jiang (nm6780147) who is known for "Path to Salvation" as "Cinematographer" on his Name page, but he was also the director. Just to clarify, I am not looking for a way to edit the information myself, nor am I asking IMDb administrators to go in and edit individual entries. I am asking IMDb staff to pass this suggestion on to the programmers who work on the automated system, as my suggestion for a possible improvement to that system. Thank you for your consideration of my input.
