IMDb needs to put out guidelines for ratings. If you give a move a 1 out of 10, that should mean you walked out of the movie in the first 30 minutes and demanded your money back. A 10 should mean it’s one of the best movies you’ve ever seen. I just looked at the reviews for Avengers Endgame and there were far too many 1’s to be realistic. Was it the best movie ever? No. Did I see ANYBODY walk out of the packed theater? Absolutely not. I have personally given a few movies a 10, but the lowest I’ve ever given any movie was a 4, as I believe that any movie truly deserving a 3 or less has to be a direct to video release and just simply never gets released to theaters because initial screenings were too bad.
Thoughts?

My rule is I won't rate something that I don't watch all through. Too many films/shows have redeemed their value at the end. I also haven't rated anything 1 or 2, and precious few 3s. A 4 means to me: don't ever ever watch this again. A 5 means that it was awful, but in a different mindset, maybe. A 6 is just ok. 7 is recommended. 8 means I Liked it, I really did. 9 means it's great. 10 is at or near perfection. I give a lot of 6s.

I think it would be interesting to know other's word associations with the numbers. Until then, I can't imagine whether an IMDb recommendation for those word associations is feasible.

It's sort of like that medical question: on a scale of 1 to 10, how bad is your pain? Someone I know answered 5 recently. Turns out she thinks that's "mild."

Adrian. You have assumed it is hate speech....how. Because their opinion differs from yours. That itself is cause for concern of your status here. And you have been manipulated by academia.

freedom of speech does not apply to hate speech

You know that and just disagree because you are part of the problem.

Adrian.
Really
Free speech IS NO problem.
If you cannot see that your reply to me right now is speech that hates the way I think. And that is sad. Why. You have assumed what I think based off of no discernible data.
You have jumped to a conclusion. I do not disparage anyone from living as they see fit. What I do not like is that lifestyle permeating at a disproportionate level into mass media.

A 2017 Gallup poll concluded that 4.5% of adult Americans identified as LGBT with 5.1% of women identifying as LGBT, compared with 3.9% of men. A different survey in 2016, from the Williams Institute, estimated that 0.6% of U.S. adults identify as transgender.

This is what I would like to see in media. Proportionate levels not in all media mind you but where it is appropriate. Superhero genres are watched by impressionable young children. Mainstream media should not be the ones to introduce alternative lifestyles. Supergirl should in my opinion be a TVMA rated show. It puts it where it belongs. It is rated TVPG. You may consider that perfect. I do not. But I do not mind that you may have a different opinion than I.

But for you to call for the removal of any ones opinion based on the assumption that you and those that think as you do are the arbiters of what can be or not be read is absolutely incorrect. Listen to yourself for a second.
I DO NOT think that it is right that for me to do what you just said. Remove your replies. No way. It is wrong. But you cannot make a problem just go away by removing what you don't like reading. It will only make things worse for society overall.
I don't want to live in a world where any opinion is muted. I unlike you, that dislike what I say, would never call for your replies or any post closed, based on the fact that I may disagree with your opinion. Never Never Never.

Adrian, your posts are full of assumptions.

If you have watched Black Lightning and Batwoman, I assume you have also watched other "Berlantiverse" shows like Arrow and DC Legends.

I challenge you to objectively compare a superhero like John Diggle / Spartan who is a well developed, interesting, multi-dimensional character who happens to be black to Black Lighting.

Do the same comparison for Sara Lance / White Canary & Batwoman vis-a-vis LGBT.

PS. Why do you assume I am white?

Actually, it's not full of assumptions. You are pushing something that isn't politically correct. Diggle is no more developed than Black Lightning and I would say Black Lightning is a whole lot more developed than Diggle who is just a sidekick to the main white hero.

The same can be said for Sara Lance. She's really not all that developed, at least originally on Arrow and she is more part of an ensemble on Legends than Batwoman who is the focus of a show. People accept sidekicks and ensemble casts much more readily than they do lead actors who need to usually fall in to line with "norms".

Also, no one assumed you were white. But, there are legions of fan boys who are white, straight men who downvote these series. There are articles exploring this topic about rotten tomatoes.

You can also explore the flaws of series without trying to slur them as "politically correct". Saying that you vote them 1 due to "political correctness" shows more a bias on your part than it says anything about the series, especially if you have only watched a handful of episodes. You aren't saying the series are bad. You are saying they don't meet your worldview which is not a good way to judge art.

PC is Hogwash and needs to be removed as a way of thinking. PC IS censorship.

Sara Lance. She's really not all that developed, at least originally on Arrow and she is more part of an ensemble on Legends than Batwoman
Again you are using a partial view of Sarah. The one on Arrow as definitive.
Look your blinders on approach and one size PC must fit all opinion is as minority opinion. Yep your view is a minority view. Yet you command that action be taken and replies be removed and posts be closed.

Adrian.
You are in the minority and your opinions are just that. Your opinions.
But you do not speak from a point of true wisdom.
You are not looking at the big picture.
You are not learning from history.
You and yours if not reeled in are doomed to repeat the past in ways you obviously cannot grasp.

I meant to say Batwoman not Supergirl.
Batwoman is currently TV14 and should be TV-MA

A Rating is in the eye of the beholder!
And with the current weighted average system in place, a 1 or a 10 almost do not count anymore.
It takes more than likely 10 persons voting a 1 to make one, 1 vote. same for 10s
Currently today voting anything a 1 or 10 are a throwaway vote, and I encourage anyone that has any title rated a 10 to swap it to a 9 if you really want your vote to count. All of us here except the original poster are fully aware of the number of complaints six months ago about the sudden drop in a lot of titles ratings as IMDb was tinkering with the weighted average formula. So I encourage all that read this that has any title rated a 10 to re-rate it a 9 if you want your vote to have any meaning.
Same for a 1 vote, although I don't think most of us here have but a small percentage of titles rated as such.
Smiles everybody!
You too Adrian. I may disagree vehemently sometimes with you, and act like a dog in pursuit of a bone, but that does not mean disrespect you for your opinions either!
Peace!!

That is a great advice. However, I don't why you don't apply it. Currently 13% of your ratings are 10/10 ratings.

I started, did 100 last night.

There are 10 movies and 2 series I don't have the heart to give 9s to though.

The 10 movies are listed on the Poll Suggestion for Top 10 movies after 1970.

The series are Person of Interest and Agents of SHIELD.

Abi, the weighted average system takes your 10 vote and essentially makes it somewhere between a 5-7 vote in the actual numbers.
I just finished changing my 10s to all 9s.
Person was a 10 in my votes too. But I dropped it so the vote really counts.
Rating Agents right now. Was waiting till the end to rate it, but it's never disappointed me. Well except for maybe the Time Traveling season. I'd give that an 8. I hope that they don't pull a G.O.T. thing for the last season!

And Cinephile
All my 10s are 9s NOW

Agents has never failed to impress me.

I agree the the first half of Season 5 (the "time travel season" was the worst.)

The worse episode was 3x06, the one about Simmons being stuck on the planet where HIVE was hanging out. This also happens to be the most "critically acclaimed" episode, and even has its own Wiki page. This is an example of why I don't take much stock in the opinions of critics.
