We do currently display the series level image, as not all episodes have a specific image uploaded and people typically identify the series poster more easily than an image from the specific episode.
There is a related matter regarding IMDb polls. I considered starting a separate thread to report this problem, but thought it is pertinent to this thread. If you (Claire and/or Steve) wish to split off (fork) this post to a new thread, please do so with this title:
IMDb Polls do not Inherit Image for Television Episodes When an Episode Does not Have a Primary Image

I first noticed the issue when this poll went live on July 1, 2018.
In Memoriam: Harlan Ellison
https://www.imdb.com/poll/VtBrsA-dZ7U/

The list upon which this poll is based clearly has images for all of the choices:
In Memoriam: Harlan Ellison
https://www.imdb.com/list/ls022387985/

However, when the poll went live, many of the choices do not have images. A specific example is the first choice in the poll:
Ripcord (1961– )
Episode: Where Do Elephants Go to Die? (1963)

The list has the image associated with the series:
Where Do Elephants Go to Die

Whereas the poll has no image:

On further examination, the episode does not have any image associated with the episode:

A specific example of a choice that retained the image is the third choice:
Burke's Law (1963–1966)
Episode: Who Killed Purity Mather? (1963)

The image in the list:
Who Killed Purity Mather

Appears as the image in the poll:

On further examination, the episode has two images associated with the episode:

As you are aware, the IMDb Poll software went live in September 3, 2013. The list software has been updated in the last year.

Ideally, the IMDb Poll software should be updated to allow for the image for an episode to inherit the image for the series when the episode does not have an image. I realize this is not a minor change to the IMDb Poll software. Budget and development time would have to be assigned to such an effort, and other development priorities are probably much higher.

Thanks, Dan!

This is related to the same topic, but a different issue requiring investigation with the IMDb lists team rather than Mobile.
Appreciate your thorough explanation, makes the issue report much easier on our end :)

I'm reaching out now, will keep you posted on any updates.

Steve,

Thanks for resolving this so quickly.

There is at least one on poll that has been affected. I will check that as soon as possible and verify that there are no additional issues.
