IMDb should make language on the website gender inclusive and gender neutral where needed. It should also provide options for gender neutral pronouns for non-binary cast.

Hi Ryan B,

There are three elements to your suggestion: 1. IMDb's editorial policy for gender neutral; 2. Allowing for a gender neutral option for people and characters; and 3. Content from users and third parties.

1. IMDb generally follows the Associate Press (AP) style sheet. AP has adopted gender neutral standards in the last year:

IMDb would need to consider how these new recommendations affect their editorial policy.

2. Allowing for gender neutral options for people and characters would require a programming change. This may require a lot of effort to convert, because gender is represented in multiple ways on the website.

3. IMDb may be able to foster a gender neutral policy, but would not be able to enforce this on users and other third party sources.

Note: I am a long time user of IMDb, not a staff member.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Actor/Actress shot in foot.

I find it all rather pathetic really that there should be
all that fuss (WHY!?!?!) that everyone should now be called an actor and then
the “oh so right on” film industry find themselves awarding Oscars to “Best Actress”
or whatever.

As I say PATHETIC.
