IMDb & Social Networking - overhaul needed

IMDb has been around so long and refined so many times that competing services will likely never catch up.  IMDb is THE "go to" source for movie and TV information, IMO.

However, IMDb has a lot of room to grown in terms of Social Networking.  If it's not going to be social, that's okay; but if it's going to tease us with lists, profiles, polls, reviews, etc., then it needs to go ahead and fill in the blanks.

The current status of all things social at IMDb is very convoluted and fragmented.  I would like to see the addition of or improvements related to the following:
  • Build on the use of Compared to you statistics.  Allow searching and sorting of other users to find the most similar users (overall or possibly by genre, location, age, etc.).
  • Lists pages do not have mobile or m.imdb/xxx formating.  This is needed as most of being social is on mobile devices and on the go.
  • Refine the interface for message boards and following friends.  The current interface is reminiscent of Usenet from the early 1990s.  It should be upgraded to work and look closer to the modern streams and comment sections that are common today.
These are just a few ideas.  Perhaps you have some as well.  Please share.

I support the basic outlines of this suggestion. I encourage other IMDb users to review this suggestion, recommend refinements and provide constructive comments.

Would you approve if the boards were replaced entirely
with Facebook comments or something like that? ... :-(

Lucus, I have to side with Dan on that one.  I'm not a Facebook user, so I am a little bias.  Regardless of my not using Facebook, I think folks that would be social with IMDb are already submerged deep within the waters of IMDb and appreciate all it has to offer.  It's really just a matter of connecting what's already here.

I think IMDb just needs to refine and build on what they already have.  But it must be built on so that it doesn't become even more convoluted.

These are some great ideas, especially the point about finding other users similar to you by using the compared to feature.
