Hello,
I can't watch IMDB trailers on Firefox 40.0.3. Not even with Add-ons disabled and/or on Firefox's safe mode
Can someone help me on this one?
Thanks!

Hi Pedro,

I am another user and also use Firefox 40.0.03, which is the latest version.

You will need to have the latest version of Shockwave Flash installed to play the trailers and set the plugin so that it is always running.

I typically turn off Shockwave Flash since it tends to cause Firefox to freeze up if a webpage using Flash is open for a long time. When I had Flash deactivated, the trailers do not play and I did not receive a message that I needed Flash. When I activated Flash the trailers played.

Hell Dan,

Thank you so much for your answer but I’m running Shockwave Flash 18.0.0.232 and the ‘Always Activate’ option is on but nevertheless IMDb trailers don’t play :(

I've just resolved the same problem I was having by excluding IMDB from adblock+

... the problem continues.
Really?
But the thread status says the problem has been "solved".  (-;

Why do admins on this board mark problems "solved"
before the OP even had time to respond to the first reply?
(And why does the "solved" status tag remain uncorrected
for weeks after the OP said the problem has NOT been solved?)

I had not even noticed that the post was marked as ‘solved’.

No way! It isn’t solved.

Sorry for the delay on this.  We are moving away from Flash trailers and the majority of trailers on IMDb should now use an HTML5 player.  Please can you check one or two of the trailers featured on http://www.imdb.com/trailers

If they are okay, please let us know which trailers are still not playing (and do continue to disable plug-ins while testing this, thanks).

Also do the trailers play on other browsers on the same system if you have any installed?

I can watch all the trailers in the list, but if I open a movie link and then click on "watch trailer" it opening the trailer in a separate window but the trailer itself doesn't start.

Update to 43.0.4 and then click the menu button and then click help.
From the Help menu choose Troubleshooting Information.
Click the Refresh Firefox button in the upper-right corner of the Troubleshooting Information page.
To continue, click Reset Firefox in the confirmation window that opens.

Col,

I am using Firefox 42.0, which is the most current version of Firefox for Windows. I am running Windows 7 and Office 2007 Professional on a Dell Precision M4300 laptop. I am running Norton 360 Premiere for my virus software. I am not using any ad blockers. I am logged into my account.

All of these trailers work fine when I have Adobe Flash activated, but do not load when I have Flash deactivated:

All of the trailers are from this page:
http://www.imdb.com/trailers

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2
Ip Man 3
The Divergent Series: Allegiant
Ride Along 2
Finding Dory
Triple 9
The Finest Hours
London Has Fallen
Warcraft
The Divergent Series: Allegiant
I Am Thor
Spectre
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens
Heist
The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
Alice Through the Looking Glass
Concussion
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2

This is what I see when I click on the play button for The Force Awakens:

These are my settings for the add-ins.

Are there any other settings that I should check on my browser or other software?

The video team have confirmed that they are aware of the bug and its causes.  Unfortunately there is a dependency on Flash with Firefox even when the underlying video does not require Flash to play.  Ugh, sorry. In the long term we can fix but there is no easy short term resolution, sorry.

Col,

Thank you for the update.

I generally keep Flash turned off because of know security vulnerabilities with the application. I can easily switch Flash on when I wish to view a video.

Happy Thanksgiving even though you don't celebrate it on your side of the pond.

Interesting.  Thanks for explaining.

Would that mean using WebM?
(Here I should credit another user, markfilipak,
who asked about WebM in an earlier discussion.)

(FWIW, if I'm not mistaken, YouTube can use WebM for Firefox,
and there is no requirement for Flash.)

Hi
At the moment I have flash shutof in the latest Firefox update and it works fine for now to show all trailers at IMDB.
This is my problem, after maybe some month it will stop work for maybe a week or so and then it will work just fine again. Without me doing something!

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled IMDB Trailers no longer play. Just get spinning icon..

IMDB videos have always played fine.  But now all I get is a large play
button that when pressed turns into a spinning icon.  The video sometimes appears
to load, but never plays.  Using the latest Firefox, latest Silverlight, latest Adobe, etc etc.

If I switch the "Auto" to 720p the video plays.  This is a temporary "fix"... but at one time it auto-played when I selected a video.  Now the extra step is required, which means something is messed up.   So wondering how to fix it permanently.  Thx.
