It isn't really a genre though is it? It is more of a theme, isn't it? In which case it seems better dealt with through keywords (and lists?).

If you click this page http://www.imdb.com/genre/ and look at the third category on the right hand side where it says "Explore By Keyword", you'll see that it shows up there. Emperor is correct in that it is a keyword, and not an actual genre.

I too feel LGBT should be a Genre. It has been accepted as a genre in all other listings and forums. IMDB should also have it as a Genre. I feel keywords are not sufficient to categorize LGBT films.

Agree. Would really like to know if a movie is going to spring anything LGBT-related on me before it happens.

Same for heterosexual encounters in movies though, as someone might say "Would really like to know if a movie is going to spring anything heterosexual-related on me before it happens".

Anything LGBT-related. That's rather broad.
You can of course read the plot outline of a film and check the parental guide to check if there's any nudity or sex in a movie, but that doesn't completely rule out the "anything" part. Even if IMDb would make LGBT a genre (which it won't because it isn't a genre), there'd still be non-LGBT labelled films that might refer to LGBT-related anythings. So I think the only way to be a 100% sure you don't see a movie that will spring "anything LGBT-related" stuff at you is to stop watching movies.

Once again, this seems to be asking for an unnecessary genre that is already covered with keywords.

But LGBT isn't a cinematic genre. It's as simple as that.

If IMDb makes them genres, then they'll have to consider the following "themes" as well:
- Religion: Christian - Islamic - Jew  - Satanic - Atheist etc.
- Philosophical: Nihilist - Existential - Cynicism - Postmodernism - Deconstructivism etc.
- Political : Socialist - Liberal - Conservative - Monarchic etc.
- Sexual Orientation: LGBT - Hetero

If we accept that any area out of which a human being decides to identify himself or herself is broad enough to be accepted a movie genre, then we should apply the same logic to other fields that have nothing whatsoever to do with sexual orientation like 'Religion', 'Philosophy', 'Politics'...

Maybe I'm wrong in my comparisons but this is just a punctual feeling.

Considering not even 'Concert', 'Stand-up Show', 'Awards Show' and 'Soap Opera' haven't even been implemented yet, I don't think any new genres will be implemented soon, let alone the keyword 'LGBT'..
