I use the IMDB rating sytem pretty regularly. Anything I watch that is listed I vote on. One thing I notice is the number of ratings seems to go back to another number 9,746. If I go and vote on something else, it will go up. But then if I come back sometime later it's back to that number. Right now it's 9,749 because I watched a few episodes and rated them. But I'm pretty sure it will got back down. Any idea what's going on? When I look at the actual titles, none appear to be missing, at least my most recent ratings The number just seems to increase for a temporary period of time. I actually think this has been going on a while, at first I thought it was just my imagination because I'll vote something and it will increase, but it goes back. Also the number on my profile is different then the actual list. It says 9800

There is a known problem on IMDb where the count on the profile page is one or two more than the ratings page. In your case, you have a definite problem. I do not recall anyone else reporting this.

On your profile page [http://www.imdb.com/user/ur5227696/ ] it shows:
"See all 9,800 ratings »"

On your ratings page [http://www.imdb.com/user/ur5227696/ra... ] it shows:
"Page 1 of 98 (9,749 Titles)"

It may take a period of time for the IMDb technical staff to track this down.

On the compact view of your ratings page [http://www.imdb.com/user/ur5227696/ra... ], I noticed that you rated a large number of titles that have less than five ratings. I stopped counting at 50. These titles show up with an IMDb rating of 0.0 in the column under the gold star. Please note, there is nothing wrong with a user rating a title that very few other people have rated.

If you sort by increasing IMDb ratings [http://www.imdb.com/user/ur5227696/ra... ], the titles rated zero disappear.

It is possible that the ratings page does not count titles with less than five votes. I would consider this a bug.

Well, I have recently rated some web series episodes very low. But I'm generally pretty generous. The problem is no matter how many I rate, it always eventually seems to go back down to the same specific number, 9,746. The web series episodes were things I watched last night basically to test it out and see if the number increased. And it did. But I've done this several times and it seems to increase for a while...maybe even several weeks idk...but when I go to check my ratings eventually it goes back to 9,746 again. It's at 9,749 (or 9800 on the profile page) now but the thing is I've seen that number several other times after going through the exact same thing...and I figured it was just my imagination because it does go up temporailly. But no matter what,I could rate tons of titles...and mainstream blockbuster movies even, and it still goes back to that eventually.

ReallyGoodName,

Out of curiosity, once you rate a title do you ever delete the ratings? When testing out a hypothesis of why there is such a difference between your number of ratings on your profile and ratings page,

I rated a film with less than five votes. The difference between my number of votes on my profile and ratings page remained at two (2). When I deleted the rating (since I did not see the title and did not want to distort its rating), the difference between the number of votes on my profile and ratings page increased to three.

If nothing else, I believe I uncovered a root cause to why there is a difference between the number of votes shown on the profile and ratings page.

Changing ratings, at least within the same session, does not seem to cause the problem.

This problem is caused by people rating titles which are subsequently deleted or merged into other titles. Not all systems receive updates of these changes, so depending on how your set of ratings are calculated, the count may be off. We are aware that this is a problem and are looking at ways to fix it.

However on main page it's show right:

Edision, You, many others and I are having the same issue. Murray Chapman and other members of the IMDb technical staff are aware of the issue. They have identified a root cause and are trying to correct the problem and test the solution.

The explanation I gave above still holds: some software accounts for deleted titles and some doesn't. We don't have concrete plans to address this problem specifically, however as we do other work on these systems the problem will be fixed bit by bit.

3 months??? It's more than 10 months dude...
It's the same thing that was reported almost a year ago now...:
https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/the_number_of_rated_titles_is_messed_up_somehow_plz_help

This is now getting a little ridiculous...

Murray Chapman,i ask you very kindly:
Can we get at least an ETA on when we should expect any change to the IMDB Mymovies/Ratings page?
In other words when the bit by bit thing going to happen?
Should we expect 2months? 6months? 2 years maybe, before anything bugfixing happens there?

Until then,i guess, u will make stupid upgrades, like the ref thing after every imdb page:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110912/?ref_=chttp_tt_4
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1981115/?ref_=hm_cht_t2

Was it you, who invented this nonsense ref thing Mr. Chapman?
What was the purpose to know the referring page within the same site?
It will stay like this forever?

Anyway,go back to "the number of ratings problem".
U probably not interested in this problem enough to care, and it's completely understandable, because from point of view,it's a minor thing and nobody cares.
But thats not true, cause the mymovies page used by a lot of users, who like to keep track the number of the movies watched. And we care about the annoying number differences, if its bugged like almost 1 year...
If its bugged for 1month,2months: thats fine, but almost a year?Oh come on...

But after 15-20 complaints and lots of topics here about the same issue, maybe u should try to ask another developer, who understand databases and can solve this bug...

Sorry for the long message, but i really hope at least u understand the problem and not saying like oh its nothing and lets do nothing, because almost 1 month passed again since your last reply and u didn't fix anything...

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Issue with Ratings in Lists.

The lists shows I have 2 titles that I have not been rated by me, but when I choose in the filters to show me the titles that I have not rated, it says, the list is empty...

This means that there are no unrated titles in my list (which I checked myself also, browsing each page one by one) and still it says that there 2 unrated items... So therefore its a bug which needs to be fixed.

Can this be followed up on please? My ratings on my profile are not linking up to what is displayed when opening.

Whilst it may be a case of deleting the rating on the title that has been merged and rerating said title, how are we supposed to know what title that is?

Somebody needs to fix this, or if anybody could help me with how to find the title that's been merged that would be great.

Thanks.
