For some time now URL link history is not carried all across IMDb web pages.

The following example occurs every time with names, titles, characters etc. following the same methodology outlined.

First: on the initial page of a movie, click on an actor who you have never visited before.
Second: return to the initial movie page.
Third: expand the cast listing by clicking on "See full cast".
Fourth: note that the color of the URL/link for the actor you had clicked while at the initial movie page will now indicate that you've never visited the actor page before.

This used to work and it's frustrating that it doesn't.  It makes navigating IMDb less user friendly.

Hi tsmith,

What you describe is independent of browser. I also find this annoying.

Web links have to be exactly the same for them be shown as followed. Unfortunately, IMDb adds information at the end of web links so that there is no longer an exact match. I am assuming IMDb uses this extra information to track how people use IMDb. I doubt that they will change how the links are mechanized as a result.

Let's use the example you mention:

First: on the initial page of a movie,
The Dark Knight (2008)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0468569/?ref_=chttp_tt_4

click on an actor who you have never visited before.
Christian Bale
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000288/?ref_=tt_cl_t1

Second: return to the initial movie page.
The Dark Knight (2008)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0468569/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_12

Third: expand the cast listing by clicking on "See full cast".
The Dark Knight (2008)
Full Cast & Crew
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0468569/fullcredits?ref_=tt_ql_1

Fourth: note that the color of the URL/link for the actor you had clicked while at the initial movie page will now indicate that you've never visited the actor page before.
Christian Bale
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000288/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cl_t1

You should notice that the first and second link for The Dark Knight (2008) are different.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0468569/?ref_=chttp_tt_4
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0468569/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_12

You should also notice that the first and second link for Christian Bale are different.
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000288/?ref_=tt_cl_t1

Hi Dan, thanks for taking the time and explaining what IMDb has done.  It really is discouraging that IMDb is doing this.  It really is inconvenient for the user.

I wish we could get them to reconsider and fix the links for the users.  IMDb is such a terrific resource.

Thanks again for your help.
