IMDb website needs a redesign

Well, I agree with you in part, it needs the filter options, but I don't think the sidebar is the right place to put these options, I would rather put that in a dropdown menu under the header (where the white submenu is in the concept) and if you click a button, it displays all options.

Why so? Becouse sidebars takes a lot of space that could be used in a better way and it is not full heigh, so apart of taking a lot of widith space, it leaves a biiiig dead space under it and even if you can hide it, it alterates the content structure, if all that options are under the header, it just moves all the content X px down, not altering the form and structure.

To sum up, I would integrate all tha features that you mention in the first post, but in other place and not a sidebar.

I don't know if I will design more parts of this project since it has practically 0 chances to become true (right?) becouse big companies like this one would rather pay a tons of money to some known design agency to do the same work that some individuals out there can do for less, so for me it's kind of useless to design the whole site, I already practiced a lot with it and I like the result.

If there will be more parts, I'll complete some of your suggestions in that topics and some more ideas that I had and add it to this thread.

I'm not sure how the filters would work as a drop down - there are an awful lot of them and it could get a little... unwieldy. You could offer a DHTML solution where the sidebar is hidden unless people want it, but it'd need to be on by default otherwise about 30 seconds after you implemented the change we'd have people on here asking where it is.

Yes, unless you wanted to show what you could do for a big site, as part of a larger design resume, it would be a bit of wasted time if the sole aim was to get IMDB to go for it.

It would be interesting to see what you did for the main entry for a film or tv show, as they are very information rich, would make it difficult to simplify (although you could use collapsible sections and give people the options to expand one or more or all of them).

It was not the sole aim, but obviously, it would be great for me if IMDB does that.

Well, Ok I will do some more parts of it to show how the filters would work and how a film page would look like. But it will have to wait for now becouse I'm busy with lots of examns. I will update this thread with more parts of the design.
