Recently I have just been signed with an Agent and Manager, I was able to put both of them in under my name, but it seemed to be too easy. It does say that IMDb has to verify it, and some accounts have the orange star next to them, but it got me thinking... Does IMDb verify with the actual company? Or do they just see it's a real company that you put down and accept it? If the latter is the case, wouldn't anyone with an IMDb account say they got signed by "____" company? I'm just wondering how all the verification works out!

Hi TheSwoopTM,

It is IMDb policy not to reveal our vetting methods as doing so could open the system up to abuse.

I'm sorry that I can't be of more assistance this time.

Regards,
Will

I get that you can't reveal methods because, like you said, people would abuse that. But if for instance I see that Martin Freeman is Signed with CAM and UTA how do I know that that is correct information.

Something like an incorrect film credit is easy to spot, was that actor in the film? no. Okay, so clearly it is fake.

However, not all talent agencies have sites besides IMDb, If i'm trying to gather research, or just see who is signed to who, how will I know if that information is even correct?

TheSwoopTM, that is a wonderful point, yet so please considering putting information of interest to the test at every available opportunity. Even if some contact info is not fake, it could be outdated. You can help out by flagging these things.

Hi, TheSwoopTM. If you uncover any fake information on IMDb, please report it somewhere like though the contact page or on GS. If create any fake stuff yourself, please be a good sport and correct to hastily afterward. Thanks.

I get with film credits, or Trivia it is easy to spot it being fake. Especially if they're famous enough, or it's yourself...  but if for instance I see that Martin Freeman is Signed with CAM and UTA how do I know that that is correct information.

Unlike film or television I couldn't look it up online to see if they were really in that movie if I was suspicious about it. Not all talent agencies have sites besides IMDb, If i'm trying to gather research, or just see who is signed to who, how will I know if that information is even correct?
