It would be helpful to have a link on the Create a List page [http://www.imdb.com/list/create] to IMDb's terms and conditions page [http://www.imdb.com/help/show_article...]. IMDb should include a message along the lines of what appears when posting on the message boards.
Please note all lists must comply with the terms and conditions. Violations of these terms may result in all of your lists being deleted and your account permanently blocked from accessing the site. If you discover an inappropriate list, please report the list via the "Report this list" link at the top right of the page.
Even though such a warning will not prevent users from posting inappropriate content, at least they are forewarned. Many people put a lot of time and effort into creating their lists. It is disconcerting to have such a list deleted without knowing why.

Users should be able mark lists as Not Safe for Work (NSFW) and/or contains adult content. You could show a warning screen, like the one used by Blogspot when blogs are flagged by their creators for having strong content. IMDb could also allow users to automatically block all lists marked as NSFW.

When reporting a list, the user should get a message similar to the one they get when reporting a message board post, warning that abuse of the report system could result in action to the user's account. It might discourage someone from reporting a list simply because they don't like the users or don't like the content of the list. A user should also only be allowed to report only one list per hour or other appropriate period of time. This may discourage users from reporting all the lists someone made just to spite them.

I do think the NSFW business could be very useful. As flagged up her the porn filter doesn't currently work:
https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topi...

Swapping this for a NSFW warning would help people avoid stumbling onto sexual content but it'd also be possible to extend this to other areas not currently covered, like my torture porn list which isn't something you might want young kids reading even though it doesn't contain porn (although it is currently hit by the porn filter), granted a lot of people get their panties in a knot over sex when they might not be bothered about a good dose of ultraviolence but IMDB lists the most brutal films out there, which are a challenge for even the most desensitised:
http://www.imdb.com/list/S1DrriR7QJw/

You could then also deploy this warning into other areas:

* Links to porn films - they might not turn up in searches if you don't want them but as soon as you stumble onto the filmography of a crossover star, like Ron Jeremy, you currently have to be careful what you click (although I suspect his filmography might make some workplace filters raise an electronic eyebrow):
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000465/

* Incoming links from search engines - given the number of porn parodies with similar titles to the core movie, a poor Google and/or a misclick could find you on a page you weren't expecting.

So this could replace a system that is broken and make it a lot broader, as well as covering the gaps in the old system which the porn filter wouldn't protect again even if working properly.

If the warning screen could be have options like "Get me outta here", "Let me continue" and "Don't show this message again" you'd have something that a lot of people would find useful and those that didn't need it, only have to see it once.
