Incorrect credit. IMDb discriminating against me. Inequality issue.

“Remarkable Shades Of Gay” is not a film. It was a screening that filmmaker Branden Blinn held, where he showed all his short films at once. I was in his film Triple Standard in 2010, but I have not agreed to be associated with this compilation screening. Frankly, if you pride yourself on accuracy, you should remove the entire project from IMDb. You have already taken the project down once before for the same reason; please review your previous changes. IMDb is intentionally sabotaging/discriminating against me by claiming I am associated with a) projects that are not even projects and b) things I had no involvement in.

Here is a link to verify this is not a film: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/rev...

Please compare the films listed in this screening against the projects already on his IMDb and you will see this is not a project. This would be the equivalent of IMDb posting a tribute to Quentin Tarantino as a film, when it was really just a screening of his preexisting films back-to-back. This is no different.

  • Livid. Discriminated against for being Jewish and IMDb either maliciously or unknowingly being prejudice against certain actors attempting to rectify just claims.

Sorry Lee,
It doesn’t matter whether something is an official project or not. All that matters is if it’s ever been shown publicly
If it has, then it can be listed.

The IMDb doesn’t need permission from the film makers or any participants any more than the writer of a dictionary or an encyclopaedia needs permission from everyone listed.

If you are listed in the on-screen credits then you can be listed as a participant in the film on the IMDb.

All that is done here, is a recording of facts. Not revisionist facts.

Factual on what basis? It’s listed as a film when it’s not. I would call that revisionist.

Also, I’m listed as Lee Cohen. That’s further proof IMDb has no basis/has never verified the on-screen credits.. I’ve never gone by Lee Cohen in my entire career.

How has IMDb verified that I was listed in the on-screen credits? IMDb may not need my permission to, the way an author of an encyclopedia does not need permission, however spreading misinformation is as unlawful as it is immoral. Also, if that is the case, why does IMDb have it listed as a film if it was a public screening? Additionally, it’s a redundancy. I’m being given the same credit twice. IMDb took this “film” down once before; why are we going through the same song-and-dance yet again when this was resolved?

Just because it says “film review” does not make it a FILM. Read the actual text.

Quote: “Now, nine of them made between 2008 and 2014 have been assembled in the new anthology collection Remarkable Shades of Gay, currently receiving is theatrical premiere at NYC's Cinema Village.”

It says the word anthology, a collection of works. Why are we calling it a film when it says VERY explicitly that there are multiple films? Plural. Or do you need a lesson in grammar and semantics?

This is unprecedented. Show me one other filmmaker this has been done for. Also, show me where in IMDbs terms of agreement it says this kind of crediting system is allowed? There was a public screening of 2001: A Space Odyssey at the arrow several months ago. Why didn’t you add that to the public screenings, since that’s how IMDb does it? Redundancy is aceptable, right? So long as there’s a public screening?

I saw Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar and Dunkirk back to back at the arrow; an event hosted by Warner Brothers. Where is his credit for an anthology screening of his two films?

Yes. Non sequitur. That’s exactly what a fool says when he has no basis for his claims. Good deflection. You get two points.

“There are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn't true; the other is to refuse to believe what is true.”

“The greatest lesson in life is to know that even fools are right sometimes.”

“A man who trusts everyone is a fool and a man who trusts no one is a fool. We are all fools if we live long enough.”

Wise words from the past.

It appears that no matter what anyone says they, and they is a lot of people, are wrong.
You must be the only person that is right.
Perception of things is in the eye of all beholders. Not just one.

You and Steve are the only people who have said I’m wrong. Two people constitute they? Good thing you have each other.

Lee Amir-Cohen All of the replies you have received so far are not from official IMDb employees. They are from unpaid volunteers on the site who do not have the authority to change anything.

From IMDb's Help Pages
https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/contribution-information/i-tried-to-delete-data-but-it-st...#

I tried to delete data, but it still appears on IMDb. Why?

IMDb aims to be the most comprehensive and reliable source of information on movies, TV and celebrities. We are committed to accuracy and it is our longstanding policy not to alter or remove correct factual information from our records. If you notice an error or omission in our data, please submit a correction or deletion via the "Edit page" button located at the bottom of every name and title page and our staff will be happy to review it and make all applicable changes. We have a guide to adding data here.

However, IMDb will not remove accurate information. If you try to delete an item of data which is accurate, your delete will not be processed. Please be aware that attempts to delete accurate data will count against your overall accuracy rating and may result in all your submissions taking longer to process along with additional proof requirements.

The description makes it look like an anthology to me. See https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/how-to-tell-imdb-it-has-a-duplicate for how issues of the kind are handled for TV episodes that have previously been broadcast as stand-alone titles.

If the compilation is just the existing films one after another then the shell approach mentioned in the thread I linked to might be a way to resolve the issue. Have the compilation as a title but with no credits attached to it (unless there is additional new footage, such as an introduction). The compilation then can have references to the various films rather than duplicating the information about them.

If the compilation has appeared, been removed, and appeared again that may be because someone looked for it after it had been removed and then added it because it was not there. If it is there with a plot outline saying it is a compilation of existing short films with links to those short films then there will be less confusion.

This is a sufficiently unusual case that I think staff will have to decide how it should be handled and that may come to some other conclusion.

Out of respect to you, I would defer to your thoughts then.
Interesting to see an official response if there is one at all.

The technical limitations of IMDb's structure can lead to certain kinds of chronic inaccuracies, lightly as in misrepresentation of factual information, or approximations in a sense. More often ambiguities are the problem. This is a quagmire of compatibility. If you feel that a particular title is being willfully singled out, it probably is not, but rather just happens to be an unusual work.

Lee: Like Owen, I would also like to hear from the IMDb staff as to whether Remarkable Shades of Gay is indeed eligible for inclusion as a title of its own. If it is, and if you are supposed to have a credit on it at all, it ought to be an Archive Footage credit rather than an Actor credit.

I don't know on what basis you would be making a discrimination claim, though. It looks like a bunch of other people also received acting credits for the compilation after acting in one of the shorts that constitute it. You would be in the same situation as they are. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7674258/fullcredits

Hi Lee,

Apologies that you have been credited twice for this work. We have indeed retained the title listing as a shell given the festival release, removed all filmography credits taking further actions to prevent these from being re-added and linked it to the original titles via connections. This will remove the anthology title from your name page as you are already credited on the short title.

Regards,
Will
