Robert Pine directed two episodes of CHiPs but his IMDB
entry, while listing both eps, only shows one credit. I couldn't see how to

I don't think I understand. There are two episodes of the show listed on his IMDb page under director:

If you are referring to the fact that it says "Director (1 credit)" and right under that "CHiPs (TV Series) (2 episodes)" as shown below, that is standard IMDb policy. That is how IMDb counts credits for all jobs. Each TV series is counted as "one credit" regardless of how many episodes the person worked on. (Note, however, that the episodes are counted separately for purposes of determining the order of the occupations that appear on a person's page.)
Similarly, Pine has "203 credits" indicated for Actor, but if you were to count every episode separately, he would have over 400 credits.
