Incorrect roman numerals created when new names submitted

Last night I submitted updates to 2 films where a (II) roman numeral person needed to be created because the credited person is actually a different person than the existing profile.

Because there was currently only 1 profile on IMDb with that name, the update submission said that a new person with the correct (II) roman numeral would be created.

On Canvas of Blood (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1494657/), I created Jade Rivera (II)

And on The Tortolita Twelve (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2473260/), I created Shelby Graham (II)

Before these submissions, there was only a single Jade Rivera & Shelby Graham.  There were no existing roman numerals.

However, today when I see the results of the submissions, the new names were created with wildly inaccurate roman numerals instead of the correct (II) causing a needlessly wide gap in the profile numbering.

Instead of Jade Rivera (II), it created Jade Rivera (VI): http://www.imdb.com/name/nm9082991/

And instead of Shelby Graham (II), it created Shelby Graham (VIII): http://www.imdb.com/name/nm9083019/

But in each of these names, there are no intervening roman numerals: no existing (II), (III), (IV), (V), etc. so there was no reason to put the names so far out.

This is pretty ridiculous and with the way IMDb normally creates names, future submissions are going to end up as (IX), (X), (XI), etc not filling in the missing numbers.  I know gaps can exist if an existing name gets merged with a name that is higher up, but for the system to create a huge gap when one didn't exist and wasn't supposed to exist makes no sense.

These 2 names need to be change to the roman numeral (II) they were supposed to be in the first place.

Hi Vincent-P -

When there are gaps in roman numeral name listings, this means that there were pages listed on the site previously with the in-between numerals that have since been removed or the pages are still active with ineligible credits (such as with 'uncredited' credits).  If the page with the numeral was removed form the site, that roman numeral will in time automatically be released again for re-use, we cannot manually add/modify roman numerals.

The strange behavior I observed from your screen grab is that the form allowed you to use the expired roman numerals, in normal cases, you would see something similar to this is in the form:

As I'm not certain why you were able to select the "II" roman numeral, and the credit was listed instead under a different numeral for both credits, I have filed a ticket for our technical staff to investigate.   Once I get an update on the issue I will let you know here.

Yeah, I don't have a screen grab from before I submitted the credits, but I can tell you that what I saw is what you posted, except that what I saw said "This is a different person not currently listed - credit 'Rivera, Jade (II)'"  I chose to accept that selection and then when I did the "recheck" function before I submitted, it validated the information by showing me what I posted in my original screen grab.  So the IMDb system was the one that suggested creating "Jade Rivera (II)," then it told me it would be creating "Jade Rivera (II)," but then it created "Jade Rivera (VI)" contrary to what it told me it would be doing.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Problem when trying to create a non listed credit with a name that already exists....

As you can see in the picture below, I am having trouble creating a new imdb person that is not listed yet in the platform. There are already 8 people with that same name, and this tells me to create it with the VIII when there is already somebody with that name. Why doesn't it create a new one with the IX number? Is VIII the limit or why doesn't it recognize it? I've seen people with an IX next to their names. Thanks!

Hi Delia -

This is a known issue that our technical staff are still investigating.  Once there is an update on the status I will post the information here.

Hello,
I think something has gone wrong with the fix.

Example:

I noticed this IMDb profile has a name that does not follow IMDb Guidelines, because it includes honorifics in the Profile Name:

Sgt. Joe Luciano Wpbpd http://www.imdb.com/name/nm9085014/

I am trying to submit a correction to change the Name to "Joe Luciano," removing the improper honorifics.

Now, IMDb already has a "Joe Luciano," and they are not the same person, so the name actually needs to be changed to "Joe Luciano (II)."

However, the Name Change system is not giving me an option for "Joe Luciano (II)."  The only option it wants to give me is to merge with the existing Joe Luciano, which would not be a correct action to take.

There is no option for "Correct the name to 'Luciano, Joe (II)' - do not merge it with another name."

Instead it says, "Correct the name to 'Luciano, Joe' - do not merge it with another name." which is contradictory, since changing the name to "Luciano, Joe" would inherently merge it with the existing name.
