Inflection vs Always

Hi everyone,

Last night I saw that HK indie movie: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3220890/reference

I was searching the Internet about the movie background (autobiographical or not), and I realize that there is confusion about the original title: "Always" for some (inluding the copy I watched yesterday on Amazon Prime), "Inflection" for others, including the IMDb at present.

A strange thing: if you google the movie with "Inflection" and "Derek Ting" (director/writer/main actor), the third entry reads Always (2014) - IMDb!

Looking for more reliable and authoritative sources, I found an article of the South China Morning Post (HK main English speaking newspaper), and above all the production company, RAW: they both refer to the movie as "Always".

Before goind ahead with a retitling request, I would like your thoughts on how "Inflection" could have been picked up by IMDb as the original title.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Vincent,
The Also Known As section says that it was known as:
Always (World-wide, English title)
Always (United States)
Inflection

So Inflection seems to be selected as the default title in most territories.
But correcting those AKA titles (and their attributes) should cure that.

Thanks for our feedback, Steve, I saw that of course.

But I challenge "Inflection" as original title on IMDb when the production company website and the director+writer seem to refer to it as "Always".

Moreover, "Always" makes sense when you have seen the movie, when "Inflection" is rather puzling.

I think I will go ahead with the change of original title then.

It doesn't seem like there is a lot of information about the movie or its cast/crew available online.

Apparently it is only distributed through VOD, which does not call for a lot of details.

But if it had been an Netflix Original, the press would be huge. It's weird how some movies just pop up out of nowhere on streaming services with hardly any news articles or blog entries written about them.

The only information I could find about the "Inflection" titling originated seemingly from a cast member 陈欣健 Philip Chan, as he edited the Wikipedia articles about himself to add (e.g. to zh and en) reference to the movie to his filmography. So, while he was aware of the working title, he was not aware of the release title.

Hi Vincent,

I agree, it was definitely a working title at one point but doesn't seem to have ever been released under that title so I've changed the primary title to "Always".

Regards,
Will

Thanks Will, even though I had a submission under way for that change ;)
