We're excited to announce that on November 22, 2019, IMDb launched a new navigation experience across the mobile and desktop website. These changes provide an improved navigation experience to help you find something new to watch every day.
Select "Menu" to find the parts of the site you know and love, like top-rated movies, celebrity news, and IMDb Originals. There is also easy access to IMDb TV (where available), your Watchlist, your Activity page and account settings.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Where is the link of the Contributor's Zone?.
Hello:
It seems IMDb.com has made some changes, and I can't find the link to the Contributor's Zone in the new IMDb Menu. There is in fact no section for Contributors, nor to Contributions Guidelines, as far as I can see.
Am I doing something wrong or missing something obvious? Or there is in fact no link to the very helpful Contributor's Zone?
Thanks in advance.

Possible bug: On a mobile device, when I (a) use your "View full site" link (or "More on IMDb.com" in the app) or (b) have enabled a "Request desktop" browser setting, the mobile navigation is shown instead of the desktop version.

I hate the new system. It was so easy to just type in a persons name or movie title.

The new UI is 'cool' but fails at the point of UX. If it ain't broke... don't fix it. They 'fixed' it... and now it takes more clicks, window resizing, etc. to make it work. That's a fail.

I agree. If they don't go back to the original easier way I'm hoping there is another site I can use. This one is way too frustrating.

I don't. It's entirely horrendous. The only thing the new layout achieves is to use more screen area to display less information. At least there should be an option to keep the old layout, maybe as a preferences setting.

Hi! My screen is 1366*768. I have two windows open, one window for each half of the screen. One window is IMDB in MS Edge or IMDB in Firefox. The other is anything else. I used to get the IMDB search bar, but since the change the search bar will not appear if my window is this size. I need to resize the window to a bit over half size for the search bar to appear. This is sub-optimal. It's not a huge deal, but it is the kind of irritating problem that makes IMDB less fun to use.

I miss the watch list information at the top of the homepage, is this coming back?Looking at a copy of the old homepage on archive.org (thank you, Act_1), I don't see anything special about watchlist info on the homepage, versus its display on any other page.
We still have direct access to it on the dropdown menu of our username. I do miss the fact that I could see the latest items added by mousing over the link, and seeing the count without opening the page. (I often use the Watchlist to build other list content.)
BTW, the mobile version has the link with the count, but mouseover does nothing (and I wouldn't use the mobile version on my desktop computer):

The watchlist link (and count, but no mouseover) is also still there on the desktop version, but it only shows up if your browser window is "wide enough"... that is according to IMDb's odd definition of "wide enough" which seems to give priority to making the barely-visible search box wide enough to write a whole novel there, and only show other stuff if there's enough space left over.

Ah. I have my desktop version set at 110% zoom, which causes Watchlist to be omitted.

Resetting back to 100% shows the link.
Really don't need the search bar to be so big before we access it.

Hi all — thanks for your feedback on this. The "Watchlist" button & count is now visible in the navigation bar at smaller screen widths. Hope this helps.

Taking us away recommendations in the first screen ? Really ? Basically saying give us money for the algorithm or something. The connected world right ? All watching the same things. Culture looses and everyone becomes a mush of working flesh.

Whatever you have done you should un-do it and fire the people behind it. You went from a professional stable site to one that feels like the trainee IT girl straight out of school designed it. Absolutely awful. I can't express how much I hate it. All so some moron on a touch screen can finger IMDB like he would a Rotten Tomato. Seems not only Hollyweird is listening to the wrong people these days. Whoever advised that this was a needed and good idea just ruined IMDB. Congratulations. This better get fixed or undone quickly or I will be looking for the next best site.

This is completely true. However, unfortunately, companies tend to never roll back a redesign, regardless of every user hating it. I think whatever top manager gave the final go-ahead will not want to admit making a mistake.

Your new site layout/update was not necessary and really is horrible. I hate it. Why can't people just leave things alone? Whoever came up with this needs to be fired. It's more than awful. Just change it back or I'm going to abandon this site. You just ruined it. The font even looks terrible and it looks like it's trying to appeal to five year olds. If I wanted to hang with five year olds I'd go to Rotten Tomatoes. You were on to a winner IMDB now you're going to drive people away in droves all so some pea brain thumbing at a touch phone can dribble out some inane broken sentence nobody wants to read. Those people can go to Rotten Tomatoes. That's where all the mouth breathers go. Don't bring them here.

Where do I enter a movie/tv title to get information thereupon?
Do I really have to go to Google search and enter (for example)

The search box is still visible on the desktop version.

and on the mobile-optimized version (still on desktop).

Well done IMDB.
I've found it hiding behind the greyed "Search IMDB".
That was not very intuitive was it?
Black entry box on black background.
Click on "Search IMDB" and it is revealed!

On my Android phone, I still see a magnifier icon for searches on both the app and the desktop version in Chrome.

Try resizing the IMDB window. On my screen if I have two windows open, half a screen-width per window, the search box does not appear. This is in Firefox and Edge on Windows 10.

I prefer the older design. There seems to be a trend, a uniform decision among many sites nowadays to replace their good designs with cheaper looking ones. It's unfortunate and I wonder why they do it.

I expected the new design to include a direct link to the Bottom 100 of IMDb. IMDb already does that for the top 250 why not the Bottom 100. You can add it just under the Top Rated Movies button. It is annoying every time I want to access it, I have to go to the Cat in The Hat his page or on another movie his page which is on the Bottom 100.

Ed: Thanks for your reply. I looked at many of these responses and looked at file visual samples. Discovered that the problem is with Chrome browser. On Chrome I have to go to full screen to get search option. It's not hidden on reg screen. It's just not there. On Firefox it is fine--but I'm preferring Chrome these days. So, still have that issue. Maybe web editors will get this fixed.

AHA! OK, that was me just one week ago! Seems like two! BUT, I found out that it was NOT Chrome browser after all. When I expanded the width of the file--it opened up the search bar--just like old times! I've been happy ever since. I use IMDB, like everyday. So for about two days I was so angry and frustrated. But then it worked out with just one simple little solution.
I do appreciate, reading here, that IMDB staff editors or web designers did listen to all our fierce complaints, and they have done something to address this. So, I'm not sure if it was my little adjustment---but actually tonight I see the search bar being all white! Nt the blended gray that kind of hid itself. Any whoooos! It is GREAT again!!

The SEARCH is now AOK!! Has been for me for the last week! I am so pleased that IMDB actually reads and studies the complaints we file and they have responded beautifully. I really appreciate this. I use IMDB so much and I was concerned we were going to lose it as I knew it. Thank you IMDB!

My name is Patrícia, with a accent. This new design doesn't read that character, so this is how my name is displayed at the top of the page: Patrícia
And I can't even edit it, because I can't find an option anywhere.
IMDb never changes for better.

This is my first post here and I have to apologize in advance for the possible mistakes I may make, English is not my native language.
But I feel I have to write this, although wait - I'm really forced to write this, cause I'm a long time IMDB user, and since I want to continue using the site, this simply has gotten to the point where I'm frustrated enough to create a reply.
In case somebody from the team actually reads through this, I'll try to be brief and conchise.
1. Having big white letters from the new menu on the black background hurts the eyes of the people who have poor eyesight (me included), and will gradually diminish the eyesight for those who are fortunate enough to have healthy eyes now. It's really a terrible viewing experience, as people above this post has already said, and every optician in their right mind will confirm this.
2. Since we already got through having a poor eyesight, some people (again, me included) have to use zooming functions of the browser to read websites properly. Now as I learned from the posts above, the watchlist option has not dissapeared from everyone, it has dissaperead because I'm using the zoom apparently "too much". This is actually the first time in history of my web browsing (and I do zoom a lot of other sites, believe me), that a part of the design completely disappears only because I zoomed something. Although I still can access watchlist from my profile, of course, but (again as people above has already stated) I do not understand why the search field so large absolutely must stay when zooming in and the watchlist must go.
3. Now we're getting to the best part, since we've already discussed not getting the same functions. On my new tablet version of the website there is a whole slew of weird omissions and even plain bugs abound.
For some reason I'm not getting the full menu functions on the tablet. The list of both upper dropdown menu sections and bottom ones I can go to is reduced in the tablet version.
For example - I used to visit "Release Calendar" section from my tablet. Now there is no option for "Calendar" in the dropdown menu "Movies" section, along with other useful links like "In Theaters" and "DVD & Blu-Ray Releases". I don't know how to reach it now, okay, this is completely uncalled for, but I recall that there was a link to the "Site Index" at the bottom, maybe I can go there from index? And guess what? In the new tablet version this link is missing too. Now if using my tablet I can reach the aforementioned sections of the website only by manually putting the "imdb.com/calendar" address in my bookmarks. Do you think this can be called an enjoyable site using experience, creating my own shortcuts to get through to certain sections?
I'm not even mentioning the very interesting question - was there any pratical reason for the tablet user to be deprived of certain sections which desktop user can freely go to?
And finally the outright bugs. Again, if using my tablet version, I get the 404 window every time I try to reach at least two sections from the upper dropdown menu - "Coming Soon" and "Release Calendar". Maybe there's more, I really don't have the urge to check them all. Both sections if linking from the "Site Index" redirect correctly. Basically, to ensure that everything works as it should be, I'm reduced to using the "Site Index" instead of new menus on my tablet now.
By the way, the same 404 thing happens if I'm trying to reach those sections not from my tablet, but on my desktop using the m.imdb.com mobile version. This is not a question of "empty your cache and cookies" problem, I have tried entering those sections from a new anonymous browser session and even from a different browser alltogether - still get the same 404.
In conclusion, I cannot call this new IMDB browsing experince pleasureable in any sense imaginable.

I used to enjoy going to IMDb. Now it no longer looks the same and you have to make multiple clicks to get where you want to go when one used to be sufficient. Now I dread trying to use IMDb. It's not fun. It's a waste of time. When will people learn that if it's not broken, any "improving" will only make it worse. All the work you put in on this "new navigation experience" that you are so insanely proud of, was a waste of time. And now it's wasting my time. Your "new navigation experience" is a shipwreck.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled side by side - no search.
Contributing to IMDb frequently means needing to open a second window to find the proper name/title constant (or do other research). With the new toolbar design, where the search disappears when the window is "too narrow", we cannot open a second window and use the Windows dual-window (side-by-side) functionality.

Please improve the new display to continue displaying all the items on the top toolbar when the window is resized.

This isn't an 'improved navigation experience' - it's a totally unnecessary disaster. Why can't we simply type in the title of the film we're interested in, just like we've always done?
Have you never heard the saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"? Please put things back the way they were.

the "more like this" section has changed and you can no longer click on the "next 6" and I cans see the words next 6 but if you actually click on it only one comes up. You can see just the very top tip of 3 of the next movies and if you carefully place curser on each one and click it will open just that one, why did they change it, used to be easy click on next 6 and the next 6 opened, also this is regardless of page zoom 120% of even 90%

I had no idea what was happening. For the last 2 days, I was suddenly unable to search for a movie title--on my computer, which is pretty much where and when I use the IMDB site. I had to start google searching for "what happened to search bar...." RIDICULOUS! I do not get it! Don't want it! Am beyond displeased! But I did read something that if you go to "full screen".... MORE ridiculous! Another step to go and undo!!

OK! I have resolved this--as I replied somewhere else on this run of responses to the "search bar" issue. I just widened the file and it reappeared. Strange, but an easy solution. But tonight, I'm seeing they have made the search bar more clearly visible--white!
