Is there a way to filter out particular genres in the "Highest Rated Films" sections by messing around with the URL?

Say you click on "Thriller", and you go to the list of "Highest Rated Thriller Feature Films With At Least 1,000 Votes", is there some way to filter out any films tagged as "Action"? Or if you go to top rated "Sci-Fi", can you filter out anything tagged "Animation"?

You can change the minimum number of votes just by changing the number in the URL (at "&num_votes=1000"). And if you add the phrase "&my_ratings=exclude" to the URL, it will exclude any films you've already rated, so I'm wondering if there's something like that you can do to refine the list by excluding particular genres, something like "&exclude_genres=animation", or something like that.

(Of course, it'd be super nice if these features were made user-accessible, and we didn't have to mess around with the URL at all.)

Thanks!

Place a ! in front of animation produces:

Thanks for the response. But no, there are still animated features on that second list. I think you get redirected back to the straightforward "Highest Rated Feature Films" list if you add a non-functional phrase to the URL, so I think that's what's happened with your second link.

What I want to do is take this list and filter out any films tagged "Animation"

http://www.imdb.com/search/title?genr...

I know you can add other genres, as in "genres=sci_fi,horror,comedy"

www.imdb.com/search/title?genres=sci_...

But I want to filter out animation, so something like "genres=sci_fi,!animation" maybe, but I tried that and I just get redirected back to the plain list of highest rated features.

I wonder is there a tutorial anywhere that runs through all the ways you can tweak the filter by changing the URL (in the absence of these features being made directly available).

Adding year ranges is good too, I just figured that out: "&year=1940,1960"

I use these lists as viewing guides a lot, so these options are very handy for me.

Here you go:

DD was right about the ! switch to exclude genres, but it goes here: !genres.
