Hopefully, someone at IMDB will see this and fix both listings.  It's possible that between the two movies, he changed his name, but it's ABSOLUTELY the same actor!

To have staff fix problems, us users usually click the "edit page" button on the page with inaccurate info rather than post on a message board.

Do you mean, however, that James Lorimer (and do you know if The Girl in the Rd Velvet Swing is also the same perrson?) and James Larmore are the same person? I don't see a "JamesLatimore" mentioned on any of the connected pages or listed on IMDb.

Barry: I assume you mean that James Larmore at http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0488361/ is the same person as James Lorimer (I) at http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0520962/.

Was he credited in each of the films for which he is listed by the same spelling on the respective IMDb page? Or did whoever submitted his credits to IMDb get the spelling wrong when submitting them to IMDb?

Yes.  In "A Foreign Affair", he plays a rather small part, but in "The Mating Season" his part is more prominant.  It's definitely the same person.  I haven't seen "The Girl In The Red Velvet Swing".

Oh and I tried to do an edit, but I didn't want to add this information as trivia.

You wouldn't add it as anything. You'd correct it so it's no longer incorrect. How to go about it depends upon who that other credit belongs to. I'll try and see what I can find. If there are two pages in which all entries are for the same person, the two pages should be merged into one. One person should have one page. Otherwise, if for instance, that other title is correctly placed for someone whose name is spelled that way, then the credit belonging to James Larmore then the wayward credit should be corrected to be placed on the right actor's page.

I'll see what I can find out and post how, if I can figure it out, I submitted to correct it (unless anyone else knows or figures it out before me!).

I guess the best thing to do is to add a trivia entry on both names.  After all, both names are correct as per the film credits.  He's a minor enough actor that I cannot find any biography on him to explain the name change.  It's a shame because he was rather good in both films - enough for me to notice that both actors are one and the same!

That would need to be removed if a proper fix was to be made as it'd no longer make any sense. It'd be better to fix the name issue as needed than to add trivia trying to explain what would likely simply be a mistake in how the data is entered. For instance if his name was credited with is correct based on on screen credits, it should still be placed on the same page with the attribute (as...) and the new/different name.

I added trivia to both films.  Both comments might be removed, and if so, I understand.  I have both films on DVD, and they ARE the same actor, right down to both actors looking exactly the same, having the exact same voice and even both having the same mole of his face!

Barry: The best thing you can do to help clear up this situation would be to watch "The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing" (1955) and confirm whether the actor playing McCaleb in that film is the same one from "The Mating Season" and "A Foreign Affair". The movie is available on DVD and on Amazon Instant Video, so it shouldn't be too hard to track down. Also check how his name is spelled in the credits of "The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing".

If they are the same person, and his name is spelled as James Lorimer in "... Red Velvet Swing", then the best solution would be to submit a Name Merge for James Larmore to change his name to James Lorimer (I). That would combine all his credits onto one page.

If the actor in "... Red Velvet Swing" is a different person, or he is the same person but his name is not spelled as James Lorimer, then we'll deal with it differently, depending on the situation.

It should be removed. That there is an error on IMDb is not really trivia about the film and won't be accurate once this is fixed.

No one has questioned you on that so there's no need to repeat and shout about it...the issue is about "The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing" and whether that's the same person as the fix for that is different. While folks are working on it, there's no need to be adding trivia that will then need to be removed. It wastes staff time, twice.

Thanks but that last part of your comment was very offensive, since I was not 'shouting' at all.  It's very difficult to make this kind of comment when an actor appears under multiple names.  I understand that you don't want people with wrong information to post or alter anything.  I'm not suggesting that is any error in the IMDB listings at all.  There's no reason on earth to assume that I don't have the best intentions.

In posts, all caps is taken as SHOUTING. If you meant to add italics, highlight the text and then click the "I" to convert the text, to emphasis the word(s).

I'm not suggesting that is any error in the IMDB listings at all
You started your original post with, "I don't how to get IMDB to correct this..." so a day ago you thought to imply it was a mistake.

You said you added it as a trivia item. If what you're saying is true, then in fact is an error in the IMDb listing. We're all trying to do the same thing. Locate the mistake and correct it. Now you know that what you're writing is mostly taken as shouting (in addition to repeating it), it makes it difficult to get through the histrionics and to the core of the issue.

I am having trouble locating "A Foreign Affair." Since you have the DVD, can you supply a screen capture of the name in the credits and shot of his face? It'd help support the request and get it approved more easily.

Also, it'd help to know which page should remain and which should be merged into the other and how to notate (if appropriate) the difference in spelling and if it was misspelled on screen as opposed to misspelled when added to IMDb.

Above, gromit asked, "Was he credited in each of the films for which he is listed by the same spelling on the respective IMDb page? Or did whoever submitted his credits to IMDb get the spelling wrong when submitting them to IMDb?

You replied, "yes." Yes to the former or latter?

No worries. I'll submit it and we'll see if accepted as is. In the mean time maybe I'll find a way to see it.

As to screen caps, the easiest way is to play the DVD on your pc and when what you want to save is on screen, press and hold "function" key and press "print screen" or usually "prt sc." you can then "paste" into a program such as "paint" and save the image to your pc. Then here in a post you can click the little camera icon and select the file from your pc and click to upload it. If you have dropbox (dropbox.com) when you click "print screen," it'll place the pic into your drop box, then when you reply here simply choose it and upload or you can send a link to your drop box to send it in a message to help desk, etc. (good for emailing files like pics, music, etc.) it's very easy to use (easy was a big thing for me!).

So, I requested to merge the Name Page for "Larmore" into the page for Lorimer and indicated the credit should be noted "(as James Larmore)" so if someone is watching the credits and looking for the actor's page, they'll find it and it'll show that it was credited differently, so that he/she doesn't need to request to change it back to its own page.

Now we'll just wait a few days to see if it's accepted as is.

Thanks!

I have "A Foreign Affair" as part of a 2-CD set from TCM called "Directed by billy Wilder", which also includes "Five Graves To Cairo"

Barry, can you look at the credit of A Foreign Affair and tell us the exact spelling used in those credits? It is possible that the contributor who submitted the information made a mistake. If it is mis-spelled in the credits then that will affect hoe the correction should be made. I think with this last piece of information we can move forward.

The listing on IMBD is correct for "A Foreign Affair".  His character name is not mentioned in the film.  He is the character who enters the nightclub to tell John Lund's character that Colonel Plummer wants to see him in his office.  He stays with Jean Arthur's character in club.  He is also shown attempting Russian dancing in front of the set of drums too.

Oh, I also forgot to mention an alternate way to create a screen capture, play the DVD on your TV and use a digital camera or cell phone camera to take a photo and transfer and save the file to a pc and then click the camera icon here and choose the file as you saved it.
