I did a imdb search for highest rated horror movies of the 1970s and Jaws (One of the greatest horror movies of all time) was nowhere to be seen. Turns out Jaws is an adventure-drama on IMDB and not a horror film. Even though all its less frightening sequels are all horror.

Please make Jaws primary genre horror like it obviously should be.

Content such as gore, macabre, ambush, grotesquery or supernature, in combinations, are not really significant staples of Jaws, so omission between the particular movie and the horror genre is understandable. Apropos, genre assignments on IMDb do not have ranks or priorities, so there is no primary, secondary or tertiary genre of a movie.

Hi Zantar95 -

Please keep in mind that the Horror Genre is subjective.  For the title "Jaws" in particular, the "Thriller" genre is more applicable to the film than "Horror", as the film narrative is fear based and contains more sensational or suspenseful scenes.

Jaws 3-D (1983) is listed as a horror as well as Jaws: The Revenge (1987). Most reviews refer to it as a horror film.  Both are fear based and contains sensational and suspenseful scenes.  On the Wikipedia page alone there are about 20 references to it being called a horror film. The Birds (1963) for example is of the same nature and it is listed under horror as well as many other examples on the IMDB site.  Read reviews and do a search for the word horror and you'll find that almost every single one of them refer to it as a horror in some way or another over words like drama or even adventure.  You could call this subjective but it makes zero sense to not include this as a horror film.  I think the IMDB staff is way overthinking this.

Now excuse me I have to go watch that drama film Jaws again.  :-/  ???

I agree the thriller genre is most applicable to Jaws but adventure and drama should not be attached to Jaws over horror. Jaws is definitely more of a horror than an adventure.

Why do Jaws 2 & 3 have the horror genre?

Because IMDb is inconsistent.
