Simply a follow up to Jen's great post; there were getting to be so many pages in that one I thought it could use a refresh. Happy to carry on the tradition!

Kiki's deliver service (8/10)
I liked the character of Kiki (like every Miyazaki character), I think that despite being way more PG than most Miyazaki movies like Princess Mononoke or Grave of the Fireflies. It has some interesting reference to the war, that only certain mature viewers would catch (easter egg to the LZ 129 Hindenburg)
Lola (7/10)
In this unassumed adaptation of Lolita, I loved the idea of the two similar parallel storylines. Cecile and Lolita actually never meet. The only connection between their stories is Roland.
Jacques Demy is known for his use of vivid color and musical. It is really interesting to see that his first movie had an entirely different vibe.
PS: I suggest watching this movie before Les parapluies de Cherbourg and Les demoiselles de Rochefort, because these movies are slightly related.

Grosse Point Blank 1997 - 7/10
Good funny movie. John Cusack and his spontaneous act and the music makes your Saturday night watch.
Say Anything... 1989 - 7/10
Another John Cusack act, and again the music, it is fun. The simplicity with which it tackles some serious subjects is remarkable.
Shine 1996 - 8/10
Geoffrey Rush, what an act. I would have liked more screen time for him, but he makes up from what he gets. The music and Piano peice is great. For me it is certainly next to Whiplash.
Bound 1996 - 7/10
Suspenseful, thrilling, exotic. I liked the black theme (in a literal sense). The actresses has a good chemistry. Joe Pantoliano in a lead role and he plays it very well.
The City of Lost Children 1995 - 8/10
Jean-Pierre Jeunet has a knack of making his kind of movies. Amelie, Delicatessen were great. This may not be comparable to them, but there is no reason why you won't like this.
Shallow Grave 1994 - 8/10
Friends, money, death, murder, doubt, mistrust and betrayal. Suspenseful and crisp screenplay justifies everything. The first of Danny Boyle and Ewan McGregor and it is so good.

And Corey Feldman is great.

The Old Guard (6/10)
Slightly better than Extraction, but the same rating.
The action scenes are boring, and the concept is a booby catcher to sell the same action movie.
The main villain is uninteresting and his motivation is completely stupid.

Nihon Chinbotsu 2020 (2020) AKA Japan Sinks. Schlocky disaster miniseries (though IMDb doesn't classify it as thus and I'm pretty positive that they'll never have a season 2) which doesn't pull its punches. 8/10 (closer to a 7 but I'm being generous).
The animation is a bit shoddy. It must be a relatively low budget anime production. Keep a box of tissues nearby. You might drown yourself in your own bawling.
There's a lot of 70s disaster genre influence and keeps away from the garbagy Roland Emmerich disaster movie tropes.

The Gentlemen (6/10)
Kinda, Disappointed, I expected to give it an 8/10, or a least be a little more loyal to Guy Ritchie's style.
However, I liked how everything looks purposely cheap (The car scenes, the production design, the sound mixing). At some point, I felt like watching a TV movie.

Une chambre en ville (6/10)
Not original
Jacques Demy already did an entirely sang movie with Les parapluies de Cherbourg. Like the last time, each character speaks on his own rhythm, except when they are united during the protestations. I liked the symbolism, but this film felt too similar.
The end is also "déjà vu", especially, in France. You don't have to look far away in the past, a year before with La femme d'à côté by François Truffaut ended in the same way.
In conclusion, In this movie, Jacques Demy instead of innovating surfed on the same old wave.

I hope that Shichinin no samurai and Seppuku are good because the criterion releases are gonna cost me between 84$ and maybe 50$ more in customs fees.

Exceeded my expectations.
Sad to say, but this is better than any DCEU movie.

3:10 to Yuma (8/10)
A very good movie despite some incoherences, like the sudden friendship between Wade and Dan (Probably inspired the scene in Batman v Superman), and the end of the movie when Wade kills his gang and get in the prison wagon himself, that part was unrealistic. I forgive those two details because I really liked the rest of the movie.

Space Jam (1/10)
This movie is a 1h30 product placement/advertisement.
What this movie did wrong:
1- The whole "Michael Jordan's kid watches Looney Tunes" thing
2- The ending basketball game is 25% a compilation of all-stars moment and 75% a cliché motivation speech.
3- The visual effects didn't age well.
4- I can't stand Bill Murray and Stand Podolak in this movie
5- Why are there even sex jokes in this movie?

They're doing a sequel... I don't even know what to think of that. :/

"I don't even know what to think of that."
It's not that difficult. Space Jam made a relatively decent profit at the box office. Definitely safe to say, it made a much bigger impact in terms of at-home rentals and sales. It's a cult classic amongst Millenials (who are hitting their peak sentimental phases). And the sequel is being powered by the moon-sized ego of Lebron James, who himself is living deep in the shadow of Michael Jordan.
It's not rocket science. I rated Space Jam a 1/10 as well, but I too can read the obvious pissy tea leaves. And yep. The sequel will likely be the most anticipated, high profile Razzie nominee from 2021.

Yeah, I guess so, lol. I forget that some films that are now considered weird or duds, were actually quite popular at the time of their release.
Also, have you heard about the at-home live riff of Stranger Things that RiffTrax is doing? :D As a fellow fan, I felt it was my duty to make sure. ;)

Already knew about it and added the Scener Google Chrome app extension in anticipation of the live riff treatment.

Never seen the Scream films, except for a few seconds on TV... it was actually really scary, xD
My parents saw one in the theater before I was born... an employee dressed up like the killer and "teased" my mom with a fake knife... it freaked them out and my dad almost punched the lady before she took off the mask and begged for mercy. xD

Did your parents marry / have kids young? If so they're probably around my age. What music do they like?

LOL No, they actually had kids a little later... they're in their 40's. My dad got me started on my love of 80's tunes. xD

As a matter of interest with reference to 90s Slashers, this is the song Michelle Mancini is listening to/singing along to in the opening scene of Urban Legend when she gets killed with an axe.

Mercury Rising (1998) (Rewatch)
I saw this as a teenager, and think I probably enjoyed it.
22 years later, it's a heap of so much crap.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (5/10)
1- The movie is rushing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-aXOrAp_zA
2- Too Redundant
3- The movie is trying to hard to be cool, and that is boring
4- The intro of the movie is ripping-off the intro of the menu of my Blu-Ray of Fight Club releases in 2009.

For the opening of the Blu-Ray of Fight Club releases in 2009: https://youtu.be/3RI87sgawFk?t=55
Focus on the fact that every object his named and described via an onscreen text.
and then look at this image

Kinda different, but if even a 2/3 months later, I can make the association, it is because the idea is too similar.
PS: (Do not pay attention to Never Been Kissed)

Passengers (4/10)
I don't feel that this movie knew what it was trying to achieve.
The first 1/3 of the movie is carried by Chris Pratt delivering a very bland performance. The director kept this part very light-hearted and family-friendly being alone on the ship doesn't seem to disturb/trouble him that much. In fact, the only effect that it causes is the growth of his beard.
This part was also over-relying on his influences (The Shining).
The second 1/3 of the movie, where he develops a love affair with Aurora is roughly speaking a happy-ended Bride of Frankenstein. The character evolves through a series of dull "Best of..." moments, it is predictable, and overall this part seems like a missed opportunity.
The third 1/3 of the movie turns out to be a very basic "Oh no, my ship is broken" movie. The suspense and your emotions are constantly turned off by easy resolutions such as Jim's resurrection Or, the sudden apparition of a crew member without any backstory played by Laurence Fishburne.

A family member of mine, who is much less critical of "slow pacing" than I am, told me this film was "slow and boring".
Never bothered with it.
I have a copy somewhere; thanks for confirming that this film is overrated.

The Return (2006)
This film literally gets EVERYTHING wrong.
Attempts to create suspense make it even more boring.
Attempts at making it clever make it even more stupid.
Even SMG looks awful as a brunette.
Practically unwatchable.
