keyword declined vs keyword search

In my contribution https://contribute.imdb.com/contribution/181118-233800-467000 for the title Un amour impossible (2018), the keyword voice-over was declined with reason "Not specified" (among some other declined keywords). I've just checked, and indeed it is not in the list, while voice-over-narration is still there. So, I'm wondering why voice-over has been declined.
Note that both keywords cannot substitute the other one, because when one does a search by keyword (which is the major point of keywords), searching for "voice-over" (which is an existing keyword, with lots of matches) does not list this title.

Hi,

It is probably because both keywords might be considered redundant and the more complex one has been selected as the reference in that context.

Hi,
Yes, this is what I assumed, but as I've said, this is not a good reason because it makes the search less reliable. If this is the rule, then the search needs to be fixed, so that a search on some keyword includes results for other keywords in the same "class".

There were several topics in the past months about keyword restructuring, and I understood, from IMDb staff's response, that there is a kind of "forwarding" function: if you enter a keyword, it can be substituted with the chosen reference keyword, for the sake of consistency.
I am sorry I cannot be of a better help, but I am sure you can usefully search and browse this forum on this.

From what I saw in the past, the keyword substitution was done just after clicking on the "Check these updates" button and one was getting a message about it, so that this was visible before the submission.
I've seen some other discussions. In https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/keyword-merge Will, Official Rep, says: "For example, racing and racing-game are two very separate keywords and each should be listed independently." And this is about the same case here. In other discussions, it is sometimes said that keywords are declined while they shouldn't have been.

Unfortunately, I cannot help you further.
But an IMDb staff should review this topic any time (even though the present activity on the forum looks quite prolific)

hi vinc17,

I can see the issue here, the keyword was approved, however since then another user has removed it, likely due to the reasons stated above. Unfortunately the contribution history shows the status of the item as it is now, not what happened to it previously making it look like we've rejected the item. I agree that it is more useful to retain both so that the title can be discovered by either keyword search. I've re-enabled it now.

Regards,
Will
