Keywords hot-chick, hot-girls and hot-babe

In this thread (https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/-keywording-why-do-you-reject-hot-guy) it is said that 'hot-guy' (as well as 'hot-guys') can't be a keyword because it is very subjective. In this thread (https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/keyword-hot-woman) 'hot-woman' was deleted as well. However, currently, the keywords 'hot-chick', 'hot-girls' and 'hot-babe' do exist: https://www.imdb.com/search/keyword?keywords=hot-chick and https://www.imdb.com/search/keyword?keywords=hot-girls and https://www.imdb.com/search/keyword?keywords=hot-babe
Can a staffer please delete this keyword because this keyword is, obviously, just as vague as 'hot-guy' and 'hot-woman'?

I'd say that considering how deep the problem is, deletion will not help much: the keyword will be created and filled anew in a matter of a few years, especially since phrasing is very generic and common.

Such is the problem with keywords in general: for someone specific object, phrasing or situation might seem an integral part of the movie. I honestly don't know how to approach subjective keywords like these ones... They've been around for years at that point, not that I'm saying that they did any good or were particularly usable.

ACT_1 That's a great question and point, I wonder whether it could be done, actually.

for Nikolay Yeriomin, Champion

IMDb adds "?ref_= " on  links
This tells IMDb where the page was found : Tracking number counter ? ?
Folks post this "?ref_=" on GS
Other Folks clicking on that may confuse the count
as the linked page was not found the same place as the original GS member found it

I delete the "?ref_="s on links I post here

I'd like to know how often the keyword function is even used.

I've used it sporadically to search for films with specific content... intensely for days, and then not at all for many months.

It has probably been addressed elsewhere, but is there any momentum toward moving the actual keyword list off the films' main page?  It's not uncommon to find spoilers in the keywords.

Hi Marco -

I have now removed the three ineligible keywords you reported, and these should be removed from the site shortly.  We hope to explore ways in the future to help prevent these ineligible keywords from being re-added, thanks again for your report!

Hi, Michelle. I have a more general but related question: some films address issues of "correctness", others may espouse "incorrect" viewpoints.  Although as a (lapsed) card-carrying member of N.O.W. I understand the concern that keywords not be offensive, are we going to lose the capability to correctly describe and find content that offends any particular viewpoint?

The reason keywords like hot-chick, hot-babe and hot-girl are bad is NOT because they're subjective and NOT because they're offensive. They're bad because they're useless. How many movies and shows DON'T have a woman you're supposed to find attractive?

If we're removing subjective keywords, then we'll have to lose ones that ARE useful, such as brat, ugly-man, evil-woman, stupid-victim, old-dog, bad-singing, etc.

If we're removing keywords that might offend feminists, then we'll have to lose babe-scientist (an oft-cited trope), sexy-librarian, sexy-teacher, etc.

We NEED keywords that are offensive. We NEED keywords that are subjective. We DON'T need keywords that could apply to nearly everything.

IMDb has said that they do not list subjective keywords, but also that it can depend on context.

I understand Will and Michelle to mean that keywords can't be subjective in the sense that they are reviews of the movie or an actor in it. Sexy-talk-show-host could be fine for a movie with a fictional talk show host, but not for THE ELLEN SHOW. Unfunny-comedian could be fine for a movie with a fictional comedian, but not for THE LATE SHOW WITH STEPHEN COLBERT.

They are colloquial too. That ought to be another reason to disqualify them.

Isn't colloquial everyday language, not formal or literary?  I'm not sure what you mean, Jeorj, do you have an example of what to avoid and a better choice?  Just asking.

I do not see news outlets or professional journals using such language.

I thought colloquial was for location...

? ?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colloquialism
In linguistics, colloquialism is vernacular language
including everyday language, everyday speech,
common parlance, informal language, general parlance, and
common expressions

General parlance is distinct from formal speech or formal writing

Many people misunderstand this very common dictionary label
due to the widespread misconception that colloquial means "location"
or a word being "regional".
This is not the case; the word root for colloquial is related to locution,
not location.

hot-chicks, hot-girls and hot-babes might be from ...

temperature: Jun, Jul , Aug:  98f 37c

 or maybe not.

Well, for now, that hasn't yet worked: https://www.imdb.com/search/keyword/?keywords=hot-woman, https://www.imdb.com/search/keyword/?keywords=hot-girls and https://www.imdb.com/search/keyword/?keywords=hot-chick.
Perhaps a block is in order?
