The TV series, "Lassie", started in 1954 and ran for four seasons with Tommy Rettig as Jeff Miller and Jan Clayton as his mother.  You can search "Tommy Rettig and find some information, but when you click on "Lassie" in his filmography, you are taken to the Jon Provost series that began in 1958.  Actually, the way IMDb has it configured is very confusing.  The Rettig/Clayton and George Cleveland as Gramps series was better by far.  Jon Provost was a bit of a chip, and our family actually stopped watching after a few episodes.

Drsteerforth: For IMDb purposes, the entire "Lassie" series that ran from 1954 to 1973 or 1974 is considered one series, regardless of the changes in the human cast. (In fact, for the first 17 years, the show remained in the same time slot on the same network.) If you look at the full credits (, you will see that Tommy Rettig is listed  8th in the cast listing because he appeared in 116 of the 591 episodes.

The same policy of treating the entire run as one series is followed by  Tim Brooks and Earle Marsh in The Complete Directory to Prime Time Network and Cable TV Shows,, and by Wikipedia,, although those two sources disagree about whether the first-run syndication of the show ended in 1973 or 1974.

The cast member shown that played Porky - Jeff's best friend in the 1954-57 episodes is wrong in the IMDB cast listing.  The list shows Joey D Vieria -- I don't even know who that is.
Donald Keeler played Sylvester "Porky" Brockway, I tried to correct this but they want a list of the episodes Keeler was in/how many he was in and when his character first appeared.   I have a listing of the TV series episodes, and I can list some of the episodes Keeler appeared in but I don't have access to all of them. The # of episodes  listed across from Vieria's name is "91"  That # is probably "correct for the  # of episodes Donald Keeler appeared in as "Porky"  but as stated Vieria was not a cast member in  the show.    Donald Keeler is related to the actress/dancer/ singer Ruby Keeler who starred in "42nd Street" among others.

Marjorie Bennett is credited as playing Birdie Brockway in 5 episodes but Madge Blake also played Birdie Brockway in at least 2 episodes after she appeared  in the episode - The Artist  season 3, episode 25  - I don't remember the name of her character in that episode.
