Limited number of lists

We are limited to 999 (or 1,000?) lists on our profile. As someone who makes polls (and has nearly 400 published) keeping the number of lists under that that threshold is very tough. Is it possible to allow more lists per person?

Hi Jen,

Per our list FAQ: Is there a limit to the number of entries on a list, or to how many lists I can create?
There is no limit on the number of lists you can create, or the number of items per list. Watchlists, however, cannot extend beyond 10,000 titles.

In addition, I have reviewed your account's lists and see that you are already over the 1,000 mark. Are you encountering some sort of error that is prohibiting your from adding more? If so, what does the error state exactly?

Best,
Kurt

Not sure where you are looking - I have 991 lists. When I try to make one more than 999 I get the error: There was a problem creating this list. Please try again. See the attached image.

Sorry, forgot to say, I am not the only person to come across this issue. There are a few people on the poll board who have had the same issue. Dan_Dassow can vouch for this.

I can verify Jen's statement from memory. Unfortunately, I'm not certain whether I kept a record of the details. If I find that information, I will post it here.

Thanks, Dan. Please be sure to add any examples here that you may come across so that we can forward this information to the technical team in relation to this issue (per the reply just added below).

Thank you for your replies, Jen & Dan.

Jen, after further review of your lists, I can confirm that while you have created over 1,000 lists, many of them have been deleted by you over time, which would confirm what you referenced above; that you currently have less than 1,000 lists.

I've forwarded this information regarding the error you're experiencing to our technical team for further investigation. We will notify you via this thread when more information is received.

Thank you in advance for your patience. We look forward to assisting you further.

Yes. I have created more than 1000 lists. But at any one time a person can only have 999 saved lists. In order to make more after I reached that 999 threshold, I have deleted some off my list. See the screen grab I attached.

I concur that.

I think I was the first to pinpoint that problem two or three months ago in the (soon-to-disappear) poll board and I confirm that you can't get to 1000 lists.

When you create the 1000th list and click on "Start Listing" you get the following message, written in bold red "There was a problem creating this list. Please try again"

It appears that, technically, no one can have more than 1000 lists, check my list of lists, I only have 999.

ElM,

I remember your post, now that you jogged my memory.

Jen raised the issue originally via a private message a few months ago.

I am having the same problem.  I am at 998 lists and it won't let me make any more.  I'm also getting the "There was a problem creating this list.  Please Try Again" message.  Thanks.

Thank you all for the additional information and for your patience.

Our technical team has confirmed that a user can only maintain 999 active lists at one time. Please know that we are processing a correction immediately for the out-of-date information that was previously reported in our List FAQ here:

http://www.imdb.com/help/search?domain=helpdesk_faq&index=1&file=listfaq

Jen- I've confirmed that your account currently has only 986 active lists, and have asked that our technical team research the cause of the error message that you received in this case.

We will update this thread when we receive more information.

Claire, just to clarify (ha!), I have deleted several lists so that I can continue to make new ones. But I'd prefer not to have to do that. And at some there will be no superfluous lists I can be able to delete, at which point I really NOT be able to make any new lists. Additionally, I have already spent several hours identifying lists that could be deleted.

Thank you for the information.  It's quite disappointing that we can't make more than 999 lists.  I have at least 20 more actors/directors/writers/producers/etc that I want to make lists for.  Hopefully we will be able to make more someday.  I have spent so much time creating these lists for myself and others to enjoy and would love to be able to make more eventually.

Thanks for your patience, Jen.

Can you please try once more to create a new list now and let us know if you still receive the same error message as before?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks again for your patience, Jen.

Our technical team has reported that the error message you received should no longer appear unless you have reached the list limit of 999 active lists.

Let us know if we can offer any further assistance.

Claire, that was why I posted the problem in the first place. This entire thread was trying to be able to have more than 999 lists.

When I reached the limit for the first time, I was lucky to have like 40-50 lists that were unfinished, some polls concept I didn't push further or lists that had no reason to be kept. But a few weeks later, I had the same problem, I still could get rid of 10-15 lists. Now, whenever that happens, there are only 1 or 2 removable lists. Basically, i'm only working on the suggestions that didn't go live before.

So that's a real problem.

I don't get it. Do you really need 600+ lists sitting around waiting?

At this time, a user can only maintain 999 active lists. We're very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Claire,

This is not merely an inconvenience. Both Sdk ElMaruecan (ElMaruecan82) and Jen (yrnej) are two of the most prolific poll authors with 335 and 397 live polls and 728,920 and 600,381 votes respectively. Polls are derived from lists. Live polls cannot be updated unless the list upon which this list is created is retained.

Limiting the number of lists for a user to 999 is already adversely affecting the IMDb polls.
