The sort for Lists is different between web and mobile clients regarding "The" in the title. Caused me to buy a movie I already had. After entering all our owned movies to a new list, I searched at Walmart for "Rocky Horror" but the mobile client puts this movie under "The Rocky Horror." Please fix these sorts to work the same.

Hi Shocko,

Thanks for the problem report.

Since the web and mobile clients are probably coded differently, differences in behavior is likely to occur. The differences between the sort for list on web and mobile clients are probably subtle enough that it was not caught in testing.

I don't even have a preference, I was just very surprised and disappointed when they were not consistent.

The main Web site sorts Titles including "The", "A" and "An" as part of the sort. They used to enter the Titles with the article at the end so the sort would be correct, but they changed this a couple of years ago. There were major complaints at the time, and there are still a lot of contributors who feel that the sort needs to be corrected.

If the iOS app does sort that title under "The Rocky Horror", the sort is the same as the main site.

Shocho,
Which mobile client are you referring to, and which list(s) in particular?
In the iOS App, all of the lists I looked at appear to sort including "The", which is as noted by DavidAH_ca consistent with IMDb.com.

Thanks for the reply. You guys are doing a good job and I appreciated your taking this seriously. I dunno.... I just checked, and both the web and my iOS app are sorting with "The" as well.

Maybe this was User Error, looking at the list by title (and tapping R to navigate) and not realizing that it might be filed with "The R." The clients ARE consistent and working the same way, so I retract my complaint!

I've seen some lists that include "The" in the title but actually "ignore" that to sort by the next word, which would put "The Rocky" in the Rs where I expected. But I know that you've had some discussion already about how this should work for IMDB, so I don't want to open that can of worms!
