Making the perfect movie is no easy task, but getting both critics and the movie going public to agree you have made the perfect movie is even harder. Only about 1 out of 5,000 movies of all IMDb rated feature films meet both these combined requirements for unqualified, universal acclaim: a Metacritic Critic Score of 90 or above and a IMDb User Rating of 8.0 or above with 15,000+ votes. Which movie achieving this rare double of universal acclaim from both critics and moviegoers would get your vote?

Which perfect movie as agreed on by critics and moviegoers alike,* do you think is the most perfect? *equal weight average IMDb-MetaCritic score of 88.5 or above

Thanks, I appreciate the shout out, as of today it belongs on the list. The list is comprised of movies that met both a metascore 90 threshold and IMDb 8.0 threshold as of 25 January 2017. When compiling the list there were a number of older movies that I felt were critic favorites but didn't have metascores. Metacritic being a newer service is available for most new movies, but is not commonly available for older movies.Hopefully, this will improve over time and they will add current and past reviews to their database for more classic movies. Those that failed to fit both requirements of a Metascore and IMDb rating as of 25 January 2017 were not included. I am not sure if Citizen Kane was one of these or if it had a Metascore, but it wasn't available due to some glitch in the search or if it was just an outright omission. Regardless, I will submit a correction to add it and update the current combined scores to reflect the current averages of the listed movies.

Thanks again, Citizen Kane is one of my favorites too.

Just an absurd list that favors the worst decades of cinema i.e. the 21st century. 12 count 'em 12 of these movies were made in the last 17 years and that just shows the ridiculous favoritism that is being shown to new movies. The rule should also be that the film has to be 25 years old because NONE of these 21st century films have stood any test of time. They are all simply voted 9 or 10 due to impetuous idiots who know nothing about cinema. Why do you think the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame makes artists wait 25 years to get in? Just because Lady Gaga seems important now, 20 years from now she could become an irrelevant footnote and the same can be said of ANY of these 12 films from the new century. If any of these movie rating/review sites want to be taken seriously they need to stop claiming nonsense like Moonlight is as good or as important as The Godfather or Citizen Kane...talk to me in 25 years and then we'll see if that stands true.

I can't disagree with your thoughts, other than giving the IMDb Top 250 and its scoring movies attributes it doesn't claim and the answer lists impartial selection. It is not a list of the best movies, but rather the most popular from a pool of more acclaimed movies. It has biases just like other top movies list that tend to favor newer movies and be synced to a generational period, the formative years of those 40-60 year old film historians. If you compare, the AFI 100 and AFI 100 10 year lists from the so-called "experts" it has that same biases. As older movies, got voted out with newer movies getting voting in. Both lists, favored the landmark movies from each generations youth.

However, the answer option list it is a product of the lists impartiality, rather than a product of any favoritism toward new movies. The films that are listed meet the two requirements and are simply a distribution of those that did. The list in turn is completely impartial, rather than one man's opinion. "Only about 1 out of 5,000 movies of all IMDb rated feature films meet both these combined requirements for unqualified, universal acclaim: a Metacritic Critic Score of 90 or above and a IMDb User Rating of 8.0 or above with 15,000+ votes."

However, as you point out, I agree the least deserving movies of this list of "perfect" movies are the most recent movies. All have seen there perfectness diminish in the past year, alone to borderline contributions. While, the older movies position have been unmoved. Older movies might be a bit under-represented, as all do not have a web-based MetaScore to qualify for inclusion, but the most of the most notable films have been backscored, even though they pre-date the MetaScore service.
