Localized title rationale

Vincent Fournols, you're inquiring about how the software decides whether to display "Le combat final de Majin" or "Le retour de Majin", I see. Does it seem like it picks the most recent one? But maybe it picks that is alphabetically last.

First for context, the link to the thread which Jeorj includes above is important.  Our data model for storing localized titles is still lacking and an easy fix is not available.  To make matters worse, under an extreme deadline pressure at the end of last year, a separate IMDb team built the title/reference page and used a different localization scheme than the rest of IMDb in a failed (yet well-intentioned) attempt to improve things.  This has unfortunately left us with two broken localization systems instead of one, sorry.

As to this case and your question: both French AKAs have no further distinguishing attributes so it is effectively random chance. The fix for this is to add (imdb display title) to the one which is the current most commonly known title in France, and therefore eliminate the random chance by fixing the underlying data error.  AKA titles without attributes are discouraged and to have two for the same country on the same title here is doubly unfortunate.
