Looking for Movie Title - Spy Drama from before 1990

I saw this movie on TV (Super Channel I think) sometime in the 1980's, so it was made anytime before 1990. It's a war spy movie, and I think it was probably set in World War II. The key elements I recall is that a woman was posing as a maid in order to infiltrate a household of a wealthy general or politician. A man of significant ranking takes a liking to her and invites her to dinner. At dinner, she is unsure how to behave and when a small cooked bird is served, she picks it up and eats it with her hands, at which point everyone stops and watches her. The man then begins to eat with his hands too and everyone else follows suit. It's a bit like Shining Through, but that scene isn't in there and I think was made after the movie I have in mind. Can anyone help? I've been trying to figure this out for years!

Hear the bell, too! First I though 'The Sound of Music'. But didn't find the scene.
Sounds a little like 50's 60's.
Michael, do you know anyone of the actors/cast?

Maybe there was a special song or melody in the movie.
Do you remember other scenes or quotes of the movie you're searching for?
What country may that movie be from?

Hi Breumaster, unfortunately I don’t remember any of the actors, I know that would make it a lot easier to figure out. I seem to recall that the lead actress, who was the undercover maid, ended up being helped by the influential man from the dinner scene who copied her when she ate the small bird with her hands. There was some sort of general who was the head of the household she worked for who was a bully with her. You may be on to something Vincent, not sure if the movie was European, but it was certainly set there. Thanks for the help.

Mmmh, from the summaries on the French Wikipedia and on IMDb, it could be Babette s'en va-t-en guerre/ Babette Goes to War (1959) with Brigitte Bardot.

This looks promising Vincent and is on the right track. I notice it is available on YouTube so will need to find some time to watch it and see if that memorable dinner scene is in there. Thanks for the suggestion!

You're welcome. Please report it here as well.
I know I have an old copy of it somewhere, but not much time to browse it in the coming days, maybe over the weekend.

I scrolled through Babette Goes to War and although it’s getting closer, I didn’t see the dinner scene. The movie I recall was a bit more serious as well so the mystery continues for now.

Fair enough. Moreover, I (vaguely) associate the scene with a black and white image.
Even my wife's excellent memory was of no use.
It's gonna be a tough weekend :)

I believe we have an example of mixed memory here from different movies. There were a scene with a bird or something like that, but in a movie describing people of different ranks.
