Guys, bizarre if not disturbing thing just happened with me.

Four days ago, I went to modify something in my review for the Egyption movie Karkar (2007). And you know, the usual, I received an email about waiting the staff opinion about agreeing or refusing my modification. Fine. Now, I knew that it was refused. Ok, I have no problem with that (Though I couldn't understand the reason, since my modification was only grammatical !). The real problem is that I found my whole review GONE! It's not there anymore ?!! And it was the only review about such a movie !

Now this is a whole new level of madness guys, a whole new one. Does trying to modify a review now mean deleting it ? Does the site delete the review after refusing modifying it ?? Can anybody sane explains this to me !

P.S : I re-posted my review 5 mins ago.

Hi Elshikh4,

The review was removed due to the language used in the existing item. That term breaches our IMDb policies although I appreciate that it is being used in context of the film. Please feel free to re-submit the review but please change the use of that term otherwise the new review may well be rejected.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
Will

This review was ON the site since 14 December 2016 Mr. Will. The site accepted it already since a year and 4 months. So sorry to say it, but what "language" are you talking about ?!!

I have more than 1200 reviews on the site. None 1 of them was refused because of "language". If you read some of them, you would discover so easily that I don't use any dirty language. I even refuse to use it in my own life !

And the time of that was so weird as well ! While I went to do just a minor grammatical modification, in the last paragraph of my review,--SUDDENLY the IMDb discovered that something wrong with my review, and SUDDENLY decided to delete it ???

Then why not TELLING me what was the wrong word I used in that review clearly and precisely ?? Before the *new* system, the site used to tell me, generously I suppose, about any word that I might misspelled. That made me know my mistake, and pushed me to fix it. Now I can't find what word is wrong with a review, which - notice well - was on the site indeed for more than a year, with nothing modified in it from my side! Anyway, you said "please change the use of that term", so which term is it ??????

I'm so lost. And I need someone to make me understand what's happening !!!!!!!!!

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Why my review was deleted ?????.

I'm a Top Reviewer on IMDb.
It has been 11 years for me there.
I have more than 1200 reviews on it.
And I wrote about the Egyptian movie Karkar (2007) a review which the site accepted on 14 December 2016.
5 days ago, I went to modify a grammatical mistake in one sentence of it.
The site told me wait, the staff must review the modification to accept or refuse it. Ok.
Yesterday, it was refused. Not a problem. The big problem though was that I found out that the whole review was gone. Finished. So why is that ?? I wanted to modify something, and the site - so weirdly - refused, so why deleting my work ??
Moreover, I found out that there is no page for my deleted reviews anymore, not to mention that I had no e-mail from the IMDb side to explain what happened, or even to tell me that someone wanted this review deleted anyway !
Yet the bigger problem is that I narrated all of that story in one post yesterday. And instead of answering me, your very respectful staff deleted it as well !
Is it because I said "This is madness" ?? Well, I'm sorry. However, according to what's happening with me, please tell me what to call it since I really, really, have no other word that satisfies you and me in the same time !
Now can someone answer me : Where is my review ? Where is my deleted review page ? Why my Karkar (2007) review was deleted ? Why my post about that, in your own pages, was deleted ? And what to do to complain rightly in your site (is it allowed to complain about anything wrong on IMDb these days) ? By the way, during 11 years I had nothing to complain about on IMDb, NOTHING!

P.S : 24 hours ago, I re-posed my poor review, and now I knew that the site refused it ?? (IT WAS THERE ALREADY SINCE 14 DECEMBER 2016, AND IT WAS DELETED FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER !). So a few moments ago, I re-posted it again (May god help me !).

Hi Elshikh4,

One of the terms you used in your review violated the IMDb user review policies. As previously explained you were using it in the context of the film which is understandable which is why we took no further action other than removing the item. I appreciate that this is frustrating however all data on the site is routinely audited and can be removed at any time. Due to the amount of submissions we receive on a daily basis we cannot contact every user that this happens to, sorry that this is the case here.

I can see that you've submitted the same review again, I've removed the offending section from your review now and accepted the item which will go live shortly.

Regards,
Will

First of all thanks for replaying.

Secondly, I'm shocked !

How come that this review has something wrong with it ?? It's on the site already since December 2016 ?!!

And if there is anything wrong with it, why don't the site points out to me about the "wrong term" that I used, and in this case it's up to me if I decide to remove it, or keep it (and it's understandable that keeping it means not publishing it on IMDb).
However, I totally don't agree with "I've removed the offending section from your review" !!!

This is unacceptable Mr. Will, and unprecedented as long as we talk about IMDb, which I used to write on, and deal with, for almost 11 years now !!

In my country, I review movies in many magazines, yet no one ever dared to "remove" part of my reviews before my permission, or at least arguing with me first. I know by heart that in terms of IMDb there is no such luxury; nevertheless your behavior of "I'll remove the term myself" is something inadmissible, if not angering.

Now to end all of this, please tell me what was wrong about that review, otherwise I'll delete it myself after it goes live, since I can't stand the idea of having a "censured version" of a review of mine.

"By my hand, not the other's hand" is an Arabic proverb; and I think it says all !
