Massive attack of robo-spam in the I Need to Know board, by large amount of usernames all starting with "dtruthwillset" followed by various numbers.  They appear to be ads in Korean for a gaming website.  They obliterated the board very quickly. At the start, I saw a couple other boards in the listings of the starting usernames.

In addition the "I Need To Know" board, the same spammers (using the same posting pattern) have also flooded  the "Best and Worst" and "Lists and Recommendations" boards. They have also attacked some other boards to some extent.

Does IMDb have tools in place to combat this kind of attack? Can IMDb block or throttle new account registrations from IP ranges where these attacks originate? (Yeah, I know, even if they can do that, it won't be enough to stop the most insanely determined spammers, who will continually endeavor to circumvent any and all defenses. Spam is war.)

From a quick check, it looks as if there are other forums such as Goodreads and MineCraft , that have experienced the same problem. Looks as if there is a disruptive cyber attack in play. Also note that the same groups (person) attacked IMDb on the Lists awhile back.

Since Goodreads is an Amazon affiliate, I'm hoping it isn't a system-wide assault. Hoping the Amazon/IMDb tech squad can come up with a solution quickly before it disrupts more than just message boards.

EDITED TO ADD: noted that IMDb has opened a ticket for appropriate staff; see http://www.imdb.com/board/bd0000042/n...
