Every time I search, I have to try to avoid mousing over the "showtimes", "celebs", "news", and "watchlist" menus or they open up. It is really annoying to have those menus placed right where I need to be mousing once I have completed a search. I've just researched over 200 hundred titles, and I am ready to give up IMDb for Rotten Tomatoes. Plus, I want to put my fist through my screen and punch the designer who thought it would be great to have menu constantly opening and closing. Obviously, it was some one who doesn't actually use the site.

Isn't this the way they worked before the redesign? The buttons and the panels they open up are just bigger.

Yeah, that and the area you hover in is bigger (taller) so it happens easier, as I've noticed.

I suspect i would be possible to produce a quick GreaseMonkey script to nobble it, but I am curious as to the browser you are using.

I use FireFox and haven't had a problem with this - I just did an experiment and there is a slight delay before the panel opens. If I sweep the cursor up to the search bar nothing happens. I have to hover over the button for a second to make he panel open.

So it is possible there is a problem with the browser - if you can tell us what it is and what your operating system is, then staff can check it. If they can replicate it, then it isn't intentional and it might be possible to put in some kind of delay for that browser. If not it might be at your end.

Have you tried other browsers?

I agree that it's a bit annoying, but would suggest you try decaf! ;)

This isn't a problem for me in any of the browsers I have tried.

I am truly glad that no one else is experiencing this problem. Unfortunately, I am experiencing the problem. As for trying decaf, thanks for being helpful, now GFY. Perhaps I just expect more from professional web designers than placing little "land mines" that disrupt the expereince. Why didn't they place those items above the search so they could be avoided all together?
As for my browser, I'm using ie9, firefox, chrome, and opera.

You're welcome! FYI, the language you're using violates the Terms and Conditions of the site. You might want to tone it down a little. The switch to decaf might help you there...

Also, you might post as a helpful "share an idea" thread and, if you lose the offensive language, staff might take up your idea to change that function, if others agree with you (in an "idea" thread, others can +1 a helpful, thoughtful suggestion). To post a "question," then don't actually ask one, while ranting like a lunatic, very few will take you seriously.

Just a thought...

I'm the designer of the revised menu/nav bar feature. I'm happy to take feedback both good and bad. (Please keep it constructive. I'm a long-time user of IMDb myself). Our team did extensive internal testing of the new feature for several months. We'll be investigating ways we can fine-tune the behavior to improve usability and address outstanding concerns. Thanks for the reports. Cheers! -Brent

Good to hear from you, Brent! On the main thread, I suggested that the location of the menu buttons and the search bar be swapped so that the "mouse over" problem is avoided entirely, yet the esthetics are retained. I really love IMDb, so I hope this hiccup is quickly resolved.

bj, glad to hear you have a constructive tone and that you've stopped threatening to punch Brent! Makes a difference, eh?

Thanks Brent! Works fine and looks great! While I've paused while mousing over the menus a couple times, causing this "problem" it's worked well since. I don't think switching the placement of the two would be a good idea, nor help the "problem" described.

Bluesman SF: Why are you still commenting on a problem you are not having? Surely, your wit and warmth could be put to better use helping someone else.

Comments, pro or con, are all welcome. You can also speak to comments of others, too. It's how this type of forum works. Further, I replied to Brent's comment that he'd like to hear "both good and bad." So, for you to say only those who see it as a problem can participate in discussions is about as helpful as threatening to punch staff, telling other users to go "F" themselves and cursing like a drunken sailor...

I working out means I stomp my feet and hold my breath and throw tantrums because a pop-up menu you didn't need appeared, I am glad it didn't work out. But thanks!

The simplest thing would be adding a delay in so that you'd need to hover over the button for a second before the panel appears (which is the way it works for me)

That's what I was thinking but wondered if they already did that. I'd noticed it happen a couple times, then nothing since. It might be I haven't paused as long as I did the first couple times.
