I too agree that there should be an easier way to report on duplicate character pages. Now that I've found this topic, hopefully more people can use this thread to report on such duplicates.

And Brent R., to answer your question, merging names is a lot easier than merging characters. Just go to the duplicate name, and do a name correction change to change the name to the original one.

I too agree that there should be an easier way to report on duplicate character pages.


Make a suggestion, as this comes up quite a bit and it'd be great to get a system where this can be sorted out easily - although staff sort it out quickly on here, so perhaps all we need is a character merge thread, like this...

Why am I the only one noticing and reporting duplicate characters? Here's Henry, from Disney's "Country Bears" theme park attraction and film:

I've merged the character pages for you.  Also, for future reference, if you need to post a new topic in the community, you can do so by starting at the IMDb community page here: https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb , within the Search field, enter the question you want answered and click the search icon. 

You will see search results listed from other posted topics, if the results aren't relevant to your exact issue, at the bottom of the page you will see a yellow "Continue Creating Conversation" button, click on that and you will automatically be redirected to the "Start a Conversation" form where you can enter all the relevent information for your question and and post it within the community.  Hope this helps!

It might be "boring", but I always do it, with any site that has those dangling modifiers to its URLs. Not saying you have to, just saying that I don't find it a chore.

I just got into the habit of removing it all. Still, once in a while I guess I get lazy and just copy/paste as is.  Or, just try to miss all the junk when copying.

While I usually remove the alphabet soup, I am always glad to see it posted. IMDb added it to various pages so that they would know where a link came from, thus totally screwing up the visited/not visited  function of History, a sore point for many users.

Maybe if enough links are posted with the garbage still, IMDb will finally realize that they have been seriously annoying many users only to gather inaccurate statistics and revert to the correct, bare URLs.

I love how James bond is character #7. All of the small numbers are other iconic characters, too. Shows that they were some of the first character pages made by IMDb staff (I presume).

Of course - mister hot-shot agent 007 gets his doubles removed after 12 hours, but the poor Obi-Wan, Eowyn, Loki, Ted Mosby and the others suggested 3 weeks ago, are still waiting without being taken care off. :-P
What is it about James Bond that makes all women jump onto him instantly? :-D

Hi Peter, I'm not sure how/when all these extra character pages came about, but I've merged the page you mentioned.  Please do go ahead and change the name, when merging pages we have to go with the one with the lowest "ch" number, so whatever name is on the lowest ch number is the character name that sticks after a merge.

I'm not sure that a lot IMDb users who create/update character pages really know how it works.
It seems they tend to click on CREATE NEW rather than ADD a name to the already existing character page...
