I love IMDb and I visit it frequently, at least once a day (usually multiple times a day). The one major problem I have with using IMDb is to check out a movie I haven't seen yet: the message board topics spoil everything.

I want to read a review or two, to make sure the movie is good without spoiling anything for myself. So I scroll down to the reviews -- but sometimes I scroll just a bit too far, and the message board topics come up, and they invariably contain MASSIVE spoilers about the movie. Topics like "why did Character X kill Character Y", "Character Z = Character X, worst twist ever", "when did you first realize Character Y was really Character Z's long lost brother?" etc.

Now I understand that by choosing to read the boards, I am accepting the risk that they are probably full of spoilers. That is OK with me. But when the film's MAIN PAGE shows five threads from the boards, and they are NOT filtered for spoiler alerts, that is a huge problem for me. It discourages me from using IMDb to check out films I haven't seen yet.

Please, IMDb mods: keep the spoilers in the boards, and leave the main pages spoiler free!

Message board spoilers can be a major issue when you have not seen a film, but want to find out more about a film without spoiling for yourself. Unfortunately, it is probably not practical to filter threads that appear on the main page, since this would require moderation, which would far exceed the amount of time of IMDb staff and volunteers.

One alternative is obscure the message board titles with "spoilers". This could be for a limited time or make this an option in the "Site preferences" page [https://secure.imdb.com/register-imdb...]. Another alternative is to make it user selectable via the "Site preferences" page whether to display the message board and provide a message on the main page when the message board is deselected.

push the scroll button, a circle with up and down arrows appears, sometimes left and right arrows also. Move your pointer away from the circle in the direction that you want to go and it will auto scroll. The farther from the circle you go the faster it scrolls. Scroll down until you see Frequently Asked Questions. Slow down until you see Review this title | See all 286 user reviews at the bottom of your screen. Left click mouse and circle goes away and you won't see Message Boards Recent Post and any spoilers

I like the last option you mentioned. If there were an option to "hide message boards", or simply a way to customize what I can see on the main page, that would solve my problem. Just a little checkbox would do the trick.

Not only that, but it would be pretty cool to have more control over the interface in general.

If you see such threads, report them using the terms and conditions option and explain that there is a spoiler in the title. It might mean no other people are caught out by this.
