I need an app that can help me pick which movie to watch by entering genres, actors, themes, ratings, and such things.  I already have a portfolio for the idea and just want someone from IMDb to take a look at it.  I think it could make IMDb a lot of money.

Would this give the same result as Advanced Title Search? And how would it make a lot of money?

IMDb gives you the ability to create lists of titles. You can create a list of the titles you own, and then in Advanced Title Search restrict the results to Titles on this list.

As for popularity, at the end of last year IMDb was visited by over 200 million unique visitors monthly, according to Col Needham's end of year message.

I didn't know this option existed.  Thanks for your help.  This will work great for now.

I just wish it was more easy/convenient.  It takes a lot of work trying to narrow down the search and I honestly don't even know what half the things on that search restrictions mean.  I think this advanced search is good for someone looking for a movie title they've forgotten about and can't find it or for someone that really knows their movies from the moment the director dreams up the idea for the movie, but I was hoping for something much more simplified in a user friendly app form so I don't have to get on a computer and go through the lengthy process.  I don't need to know the sound quality or whether it's on Instant Video, it just seems a little over complicated.

I was thinking of a simple app that just has ratings (both stars out of 10 and PG, PG-13, etc..), genres (that can also be combined to show only movies with that specific combination of genres), an option to show all movies, only movies on DVD or in theaters, only movies you own, or a combination of the four, and then a button on every movie that comes up on the search that quickly adds the movie to your list.

I checked out the IMDb app that lets me see my list and refine it to only one genre or another, but doesn't let me refine to only specific combinations of genres, and it doesn't let me refine to all those other awesome things the advanced title search does.

I don't know how hard this would be but it was just an idea.

Thanks for your help David, this Advanced Search is pretty cool and will work great for what I need.

I wish IMDB would be able to search for movies of a certain year. Sometimes I'm in the mood to watch movies from a specific year to remember what other movies I saw around the same time. When I put in a year like 1985 it may only bring back 5 or 6 and one of those may have the tear in the title. Does any app or website give the option to search by year?

Follow this link http://www.imdb.com/search/title  You will find what you're looking for under the third advanced search option called "Release Date"

While advanced search is available on the web... we are missing this functionality in the app itself. We are aware of the issue and its on our road-map to address this.... and more. Stay tuned ;-)
