Hi Max, while this may have been the DVD runtime, we're looking for evidence regarding the theatrical runtime. 

Max. The 2 USA sources are 121. The BBC has it at 120. And Deseret which IMDb would not consider a trusted source most likely has it at 120.
Your Evidence is shall we say, inconclusive.
The DVD is what it is.
So nothing matches.
The two US sources however are written the same day as the official release of the title and more than likely are using information from a press release packet.
They would be more likely to be accurate.
At least that is my 2 cents.

DVD back covers should never be trusted (alone) when it comes to running times. I didn’t find any confirmed info about the running time of the US DVD (NTSC, which is very close to ”film” running time).


I only found exact running time from the Australian release (region code 2/4, so identical disc is released in Europe inc. UK et ). But that is PAL, so it has ”PAL speed-up” ( https://thisorthatedition.com/pal-spe... ).

So while I can’t confirm the NTSC running time, it seems that ”115 minutes” refers to PAL running time (not the original film or NTSC).

Edit: BBFC (UK) lists the ”film” running time as 120:07, and ”video” (again, PAL with PAL speed-up) as 115:11.

Vudu and Amazon both list a 120 min. runtime. There's no evidence to suggest that the theatrical cut is any different from the home release.

Max, one tip for running times is to find a source that also list seconds. Like checking/watching the actual film from some streaming source, checking the actual running time from DVD/Blu-ray/UHD, seaching the reviews or sites likes DVDcompare that list the exact running time etc.

Of course there can be PAL and NTSC differences (as said before), but NTSC and PAL refer to standard-definition video formats. With HD/4K/film (Blu-ray/UHD and probably most bigger streaming sites at the moment) that really won’t be an issue.

Some films can also have different production company/distributor logos depending on the country/region/area (films can be distributed by the different companies) before the film that can be part of the running time. 30 second - 1 minute differences (give or take) are not that unusual.

With ”Murder by Numbers”, I would list the running time of 120 minutes (and you probably could also left 115 minutes if you add the attribute ”PAL”). Some sources can probably list 119, 120 or 121 minutes, but I would trust the sources that are not round up or down (in another words: the source that also lists seconds).
