My actor credit is showing as 'self' on my page. It was a documentary I acted in. I need to change the credit to 'actor'.

Generally, documentaries are not considered as acting performances. Documentaries document real events and tend to interview people about the events it documents, either as private individuals or in lieu of a position that tends to have special knowledge about the events (such as professors, scientists, etc.). For such credits it is customary to use "himself" or "herself", since that is precisely what they are in the context of a documentary.

Depending on the documentary I suppose there are some that can include actual acting performances as well, such as in reenactments of historic events. In such circumstances it is probably possible to get a normal acting credit.

If, however, your credit is correct, and you were in fact interviewed in the documentary as yourself, then you'll need further acting credits in other non-documentaries in order to get listed as an actor, rather as self.

I have an actor credit in the documentary. I thought it was clear from my question.

It could be helpful if you posted a link to the documentary or credit, for further comments.

I have the same issue with a docudrama:
My link: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm6046107/
The docudrama's link: www.imdb.com/title/tt4597298
The same problem applies to all the other actors apart from entries marked with "himself", "herself" and "narrator". Please Help.

You should have started a new thread if it's not about the same title.

But, if your problem is that actors are being listed as self instead for reenactments in a documentary, you need to add the keyword "reenactment." The result will be that people listed with a character name, instead of "himself/herself," will be listed for an acting, not self credit.

I submitted a request to add the keyword. Give it time to process and if there are problems, start a new thread, don't post in the middle of a year old thread about a different title, for assistance.

I had the same problem.  All of the cast should be listed as an actor and not as Self in this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3978326/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

Michael: There are two possibilities for how to resolve this.

If How We Built the Bomb (2015) (TV) is a dramatized film and not really a documentary, then please submit a deletion of the Documentary genre from the film's page.

But if this really is a documentary albeit containing some acting roles, then please submit the keyword reenactment to the documentary's keywords page at http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3978326/keywords.

It sounds like this contained re-enactments and if so you'll want to add the keyword "reenactment" - which will turn the non-Self credits into actor credits. You can add it to the specific episode, but if the series does this, then you can add it to the main series page.

It comes up quite often on here and I've submitted the keyword a number of times - the system works nicely and it shouldn't take long for the submission to go through,

The film page now has 'reenactment' as a key word, but on my page I'm still listed as 'self'. The system hasn't changed my credit to 'actor' automatically. I'm not sure what to do now. To delete the credit and re-instate it? Seems rather cumbersome.

Can you provide a link?

Deleting a credit is a last resort and I can't quite see how it'd work in this case.

Yes, this is the link to my page:http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1618489/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cl_t13
There is only one credit under 'self'
Other actors, who were added after the keyword 'reenactment' was added, are shown as 'actors' on their pages.
However, the actors who had been listed before that, are still showing as 'self' on their pages.

Everything looks to be in order, I'd leave it a little longer. Perhaps bump it in a few days to see if staff have any input.

You are currently shown as 'self' on the base (www.) page but as 'actor' on the pro page.

It takes a while for all pages to be rebuilt, and the base page should be correct relatively soon.

You also show as actor on your normal IMDb page using the reference view. That means the change is slowly working its way through the system, updating the various views and connections affected by the change. Your credit should show as actor on the normal IMDb view within a couple of days, I'd say. No need to do anything, but wait.

Thanks.
My credit actually showed as 'actor' when viewed using the reference page before the word 'reenactef' had been added to the film's page.
I'll wait a couple if days and see what happens...

Please could someone explain how/where to add the "key word" reenactment so my "Self" credit can be changed into "actor"? The doc I was in was an enacted one. Thanks!

The place for that would be in the documentary (or episode) you were in. Click the Edit page button at the bottom of the page and then search for "Keywords" on that page; its in the "Plot & Quotes" section, and select "Add 1 item" in the drop-down box next to it, then click Continue at the bottom. Then add "reenactment" as a new keyword and proceed to submit it. Once accepted your credit should be changed from self to actor, provided you're not credited as "Herself" in the documentary.

(old thread bump)

Some time ago I added a documentary to IMDb that has also one "dramatized sequence" with five actors. I added those five names without "Himself" or "Herself" - and added the keyword "reenactment". It seems that four of these actors are correctly credited in the "Actor" section, but one actress is not. For some reason. What could be the reason?

Doc: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt6759734/fullcredits?ref_=tt_cl_sm#cast

Her credit is still in the "Self" section: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0084950/

Thanks.

Eboy: It looks like the acting role for Irina Björklund in Iso D: Legenda (1997) (TV) did eventually get processed as an Actress role rather than a Self role, so I believe that this has been resolved by now.
