My name is very unique "Sebastian Prooth" and I know for a fact that I am the only person, with this name, in the entire world. Until very recently, someone searching IMDB could put my name in the search and my name/page would be a result. While doing some maintenance to my credits today I noticed that my name is no longer coming up in search results. If you search Google for my name, my IMDB page is the first result. Does anyone know why this is happening?

The search results that show up are based on how popular the name or title is at that moment. You can read more about it here: http://www.imdb.com/help/show_leaf?searchsuggestionsfaq

Hello Alex,
Thank you for your reply. I checked out the link and I have a question.
When I search for my name and then go to advanced search etc, I still can't find me. I am not showing up in the results at all.

How do you determine which titles and people show up in the suggested results?
Our suggestions are generated from thousands of our most popular titles and people. Due to a limited amount of space, we then provide up to six suggestions from those popular results, and also allow you to navigate to our search results page to see everything

I tried searching for "Sebastian Prooth" in Pro and it showed up in the drop-down results - the only one.
However, when I tried the same thing in the basic system, not only did the name not show up there, it also was not listed in the full page. And when I clicked Exact Name Matches I got ZERO results.
To ensure there was no error, I copied the Primary name from the actual page (which I found via Pro) and pasted that into the search field. The results were the same -- the name was not found.
There is obviously a major problem with the search algorithm for the basic system that is not present in the Pro (or Pro-labs) system.

That is weird:
http://www.imdb.com/find?q=Sebastian%20Prooth&s=nm&exact=true
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm5195378/
Is this a recent problem? It is always possible it is some kind of glitch and it'll resolve itself, if not then it looks like there is an odd problem.

I am glad you were able to replicate the problem. Thanks for helping me work through this.
Does IMDB staff have anything to say with all this being said?

Though the staff hasn't commented it does look like the problem with your name is fixed.
While you don't show up in the suggested list when your name is typed in, when you actually run the search you're at the top of the results.
Oddly, on the regular site your 'known for' is as a Producer, while on Pro it's for the Editorial Dept.

I am curious about a similar issue. I am listed in credits as "David Alexander Topf" but when you simply search for "David Topf" I'm nowhere to be found. You literally have to type the middle name to show up at all. Most people don't know to search for me that way, so I'd prefer it to come up even if you don't think to add my middle name. Any way I can set that up?

IMDb's name search has become a lot worse since they decided to improve it. It used to give exact matches, followed by partial matches (which this would be) and only then give 'close matches'. This seems to me to be a more reasonable approach.
That said, your name does show up in the search; however, since the original returned page only shows 10 'matches' and your name is 24th, you need to click on More name matches to see it.
If you managed to get yourself an on screen credit as just David Toft, then this would need to be added to your page with an (as David Toft) attribute. The attribute would generate an AKA Name which would be an exact match.
Admittedly this is farcical, and certainly IMDb should change their algorithm so that an exact match on the first and last names generates a listing on the first screen.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled My does not appear in the IMDB search.
My name, Joanna Mahaffy, does not appear when using the search function on IMDB.com, the mobile site nor the mobile app, even when I click on the "more results" link. How can I resolve this?

My completely unique name, Joanna Mahaffy, is no longer coming up in search results. If you search Google for my name, my IMDB page is the first result.

show up in results from the main IMDb search engine.

IMDb staff may need to investigate to find out why
the main search engine cannot find that page..
That page does show up in "Advanced Name Search" results:

In Pro I get, without even finishing typing the name:
Then when I click to search, it's also the first name shown:
Are you, by any chance, using mobile app? They might not all update at the same time. But, it's definitely been fixed since you first posted, for pc version, Pro and regular view (in reference and the new version).

of your results, here's mine (from the main IMDb.com search engine).
I get only this result even after clicking "More name matches":
(BTW, to whoever deleted one of my replies above, you had no reason to do so. I don't like being treated as if I'm not welcome in these discussions. If IMDb admins performed the deletion then that is certainly IMDb's prerogative, but I'll have to send a note to IMDb about this because I haven't said anything wrong.)

As shown in the screen shot at https://d2r1vs3d9006ap.cloudfront.net/s3_images/1288916/RackMultipart20151007-2797-g28u8v-Screenshot..., where Joanna's name was found in the search result, there is an option at the lower right that says "Disable adult titles/names in your searches." Selecting that option would cause Joanna's name to disappear from the results but would leave an option in the same place to "Enable adult titles/names in your searches."

So, at the time of the reply, that was a valid response to your question.
I will admit that I did not realize that you were specifically addressing Joanna only, and you did not want me or anyone else to respond. For that misunderstanding I apologize.
